Non-removable system extensions from UI attribute from MDM is not getting applied to the extension under Apps tab in new Mac OS 26 (Tahoe)
We have an application which is written in Swift, which activates Transparent Proxy network extension. We are using Jamf MDM profile for deployment. To avoid the user deleting / disabling the extension from General -> LogIn Items & Extension -> Network Extensions screen, we are using "Non-removable system extensions from UI" attribute under Allowed System Extensions and Teams IDs section. In new Mac OS 26 (Tahoe), user can also enable/disable the extension from General -> LogIn Items & Extension -> Apps tab. The "Non-removable system extensions from UI" attribute set in Jamf MDM profile does not apply to this tab. Same attribute is working for General -> LogIn Items & Extension -> Extensions tab and there the slider is greyed out and Remove option is not available under more menu. Is there any new key/configuration defined to disable the slider from General -> LogIn Items & Extension -> Apps tab? Finder Quick Action icon rendering when using custom SF Symbol
Hey folks! I'm working on a macOS app which has a Finder Quick Action extension. It's all working fine, but I'm hitting a weird struggle with getting the icon rendering how I would like, and the docs haven't been able to help me. I want to re-use a custom SF Symbol from my app, so I've copied that from the main app's xcassets bundle to the one in the extension, and configured it for Template rendering. The icon renders in the right click menu in Finder, the Finder preview pane and the Extensions section of System Settings, but all of them render with the wrong colour in dark mode. In light mode they look fine, but in dark mode I would expect a templated icon to be rendered in white, not black. I've attached a variety of screenshots of the icons in the UI and how things are set up in Xcode (both for the symbol in the xcassets bundle, and the Info.plist) I tried reading the docs, searching Google, searching GitHub and even asking the dreaded AI, but it seems like there's not really very much information available about doing icons for Finder extensions, especially ones using a custom SF Symbol, so I would love to know if anyone here has been able to solve this in the past! Binaries nested in frameworks - possible or not with iOS?
I'd like to determine, definitively, if nesting of "binaries" within other "binaries" is possible with iOS. I put binaries in quotes because I've read documentation/forum posts stating things like nested frameworks isn't supported in iOS. A framework is a binary isn't it, or contains one. So does a statement such as that apply specifically and only to nested frameworks, or does it also apple to other scenarios - such as a SPM binary integrated into a framework? Here's the specific scenario I'm seeking clarity on - suppose an SDK providing an API/functionality is built as an .xcframework and that SDK contains dependencies on two other components (Firebase, AlmoFire, RealmSwift, CocoaLumberjack, whatever etc.). Lets say the SDK has two dependencies X and Y and it integrates them via SPM. Q1: If there is an app A which integrates the SDK, and A doesn't use X and Y itself, then can X and Y be embedded within the SDK and thus opague to A? Is this possible in iOS? Q2: If A integrates the SDK as above, but additionally, it itself uses X and Y independently of the SDK, then is this situation possible in iOS? Presumably in Q1 the SDK needs to embed X and Y into the framework? While presumably in Q2 it should not - because the app will be and hence that would lead to duplicate symbols and potential undefined behaviour (and therefore X and Y's SPM package spec needs to specify dynamic?) I've been trying to get a clear picture of this for literally weeks and weeks, without reaching a clear conclusion. So some definitive answer would be very much appreciated.

Transparent proxy crash on macOS 15.5
Hello! I develop transparent proxy based application, and I'm receiving a lot of crash reports from macOS 15.5 for crash in __88-[NEExtensionAppProxyProviderContext setInitialFlowDivertControlSocket:extraValidation:]_block_invoke.90 when stopping. Even very old versions of my software started crashing on macOS 15.5. I checked my extension that it correctly calls setTunnelNetworkSettings:nil on proxy stop, but crash is still here. Does anybody else have this problem? Do you know any workaround for it?

Apple Maps directions not starting on first launch in CarPlay
In my app, I want to launch Apple Maps and start turn-by-turn navigation when the user taps a button. I referred to Apple’s documentation and sample projects and implemented the following code: if let url = URL(string: "maps://?t=m&daddr=(addr)") { self.carplayScene?.open(url, options: nil, completionHandler: nil) } This works only if Apple Maps has been launched at least once on the iPhone or in the CarPlay environment. If Apple Maps has never been opened before, it launches the app but does not automatically start navigation. However, once the user has opened Apple Maps at least once — either on the phone or through CarPlay — then navigation starts as expected from that point on. Is this behavior expected? Or is it a bug?

Background Modes Capability Missing in App ID Configuration
Hello, I upgraded my Apple Developer account from free to paid (Individual), but I cannot enable “Background Modes” (specifically “Location updates”) for any of my App IDs—including both old App IDs created while on the free account and brand new App IDs created after upgrading. When I go to Apple Developer Portal > Identifiers > [select App ID] > Edit, the option for “Background Modes” is missing from the list of capabilities. This is preventing me from enabling required entitlements for background location in Xcode, and all provisioning profiles fail with errors such as: Provisioning profile "iOS Team Provisioning Profile: [my bundle id]" doesn't include the com.apple.developer.location.always and com.apple.developer.location.background entitlements. Steps I’ve Taken: Upgraded to a paid Apple Developer Program (verified in my account). Created new App IDs after upgrading—Background Modes is still missing. Created new Xcode projects with new App IDs and bundle identifiers—same result. Refreshed provisioning profiles, cleaned Xcode, logged out/in—no change. Contacted Apple Support; advised to file a Code-Level Support request, but the issue is with the portal/App ID capabilities, not my code. My Question: Has anyone experienced this issue where Background Modes capability is missing for all App IDs, even after upgrading to a paid account? Is there any workaround, or does this require intervention from Apple Developer Support to “unlock” the missing capabilities for my developer account? Any insight or advice would be appreciated! In-App Purchase products suddenly not returned by queryProductDetails
Hi, We're currently experiencing an issue with consumable In-App Purchases on our production iOS app. Until the end of May, everything was working as expected, but starting in early June, our app no longer receives any products when calling queryProductDetails() using Flutter’s in_app_purchase plugin (which utilizes StoreKit). Here’s what we’ve confirmed so far: The product IDs are correctly configured in App Store Connect, and all items are marked as “Approved.” No recent changes have been made to the bundle ID or the product IDs. The “Base Territory” setting was updated for each IAP item in early May. After that change, product retrieval and purchases were working normally through the end of May. This issue is happening on real devices in production, and multiple users are affected. The same functionality continues to work correctly on Android. All requested product IDs are being returned in the notFoundIDs list of the queryProductDetails() response. We're quite puzzled by this issue as no clear cause has been identified so far. Any thoughts on this issue would be much appreciated. Thank you!

XCFramework Location Behavior Differs from Standalone App in Background/Sleep Mode
Hi Apple Dev Team & Community, We’ve encountered an issue with background location updates when using an XCFramework we’ve built from our main app. Context: We have a standalone app called TravelSafely that reliably performs background location updates and alerts, even during sleep mode. From this app, we extracted some core functionality into an XCFramework, including location management, and provided it as an SDK to a client. We created a demo app to test this SDK in isolation. Problem: In the demo app, we notice that location updates work fine in the foreground. However, in the background or sleep mode, location updates sometimes stop completely. When we bring the app to the foreground again, location resumes. This does not happen in the original standalone app. What We’ve Already Checked: UIBackgroundModes includes location Info.plist has the required permissions Location is started correctly using startUpdatingLocation We maintain strong references and use background tasks as needed Question: Why would an app using a binary XCFramework (with location logic) behave differently from the original app in terms of background execution? Is there any known issue or recommendation when working with SDKs/XCFrameworks that need to manage background tasks and location updates? Any insights or recommendations to maintain proper background behavior would be highly appreciated. Thank you!

Update Complications in WatchOS from iOS using WatchConnectivity?
I'm trying to update data displayed in my Watch Complications (WidgetKit). I have an iOS app that sends data to the Apple Watch using WCSession.default.transferUserInfo. However, the data only updates on the complications or widgets after I open the watchOS app manually. Ideally, I'd like the Watch widget/complication to reflect the updated data as soon as it's sent from the iPhone, without requiring the user to open the Watch app.

'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'Duplicate version checksums across stages detected.'
I have an iOS app using SwiftData with VersionedSchema. The schema is synchronized with an CloudKit container. I previously introduced some model properties that I have now removed, as they are no longer needed. This results in the current schema version being identical to one of the previous ones (except for its version number). This results in the following exception: 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'Duplicate version checksums across stages detected.' So it looks like we cannot have a newer schema version with an identical content to an older schema version. The intuitive way would be to re-add the old (identical) schema version to the end of the "schemas" list property in the SchemaMigrationPlan, in order to signal that it is the newest one, and to add a migration stage back to it, thus: public enum MySchemaMigrationPlan: SchemaMigrationPlan { public static var schemas: [any VersionedSchema.Type] { [ SchemaV100.self, SchemaV101.self, SchemaV100.self ] } public static var stages: [MigrationStage] { [ migrateV100toV101, migrateV101toV100 ] } However, I am not sure if this is the right way to go, as previously, as I wanted to write unit tests for schema migration and rollback, I tried defining an inverse for each migration stage, so that I could trigger a migration and a rollback from a unit test, which resulted in an exception saying that it is not supported to downgrade a VersionedSchema. I must admit that I solved the original problem by introducing a dummy model property that I will later remove. What would have been the correct approach?

[macos 15.2 (24C101)] Custom input method does not work as expected
Environment: macOS 15.2 (24C101) with Xcode 16.2 (16C5032a) Goal: I am trying to build a simple IMKInputController-based input method. Problem: My .app bundle registers successfully and I can select it as an input source. When selected, it blocks keyboard input, but my handle method does not seem to execute or produce output. How to use SwiftData with MVVM architecture?
Hello all! I'm still fairly new to SwiftData, but have recently integrated it into one of my apps which has been going great. Currently, I have this integrated into my project like so (code simplified for illustration): @main struct MyApp: App { var body: some Scene { WindowGroup { ContentView() } .modelContainer(for: Todo.self) } } struct ContentView: View { @Query(sort: \Todo.date) var todos: [Todo] @Environment(\.modelContext) var moc var body: some View { ... } } In my app, the ContentView struct then also contains business logic in the form of various methods to create and modify entities stored in SwiftData. In order to achieve better separation of concerns and make SwiftTesting the view easier, I'd love to move all this business logic code out into a view model. Unfortunately, I understand that this causes issues due to view models not having access to the SwiftUI environment, making it difficult to inject the model container into a view model and using that model to initialize queries. There are some approaches to this that I found which end up defining another layer on top of SwiftData, but I can see how doing that may result in state syncronization issues between what is stored in SwiftData and the model accessing it. Given that MVVM is so popular and widely used, is there a recommended approach of doing this in a consistent way while still preserving state safety between the SwiftData model and the view model? iOS 18 (22G5054d) Developer Beta broke Apple CarPlay
My 2025 Hyundai Tucson SEL was doing fine with Apple CarPlay until last night's update, now it refuses to see/use CarPlay, both by bluetooth and by cable. Mind you, was working perfectly fine yesterday, it still sees my wife's phone via bluetooth and my son's phone via cable. The Tucson's last over-the-air update was 5/23/25, as in, nothing has changed with the Tucson, or my other family phones, which leaves only one variable that changed, my iPhone updating to the latest iOS developer beta.

macOS 15.5 (Sequoia) – iCloud Drive Hydration/Sync Failures on M4 MBP
I’m seeing persistent issues with iCloud Drive hydration and Finder sync on a new M4 MacBook Pro running Sequoia 15.5 (24F74). The same folders hydrate correctly on other Macs (Intel and M1), but not on the M4. ✅ Tried: – killall bird – Safe Mode boot – Toggling iCloud Drive and System Settings > Apple ID – Isolating network, user profile, and running First Aid 🔍 Findings: – EtreCheck report shows consistent high CPU usage from bird with no resolution. – Console logs suggest bird is waiting on local metadata index. – No VPNs installed. No third-party sync tools active. I’ve sanitized and attached the EtreCheck report as text for reference (or can paste if needed). ❓ Questions: 1. Is this a known issue on M4 systems or Sequoia 15.5? 2. Could file system ownership have been impacted by command-line tools? 3. Is there a safe method to reset bird metadata or iCloud sync state locally? Any guidance from Apple or other developers would be appreciated. Thanks!

WeatherKit API inaccessible for some users
Hi All, I’m puzzled by this issue: my app uses WeatherKit to fetch hourly UV-index and temperature forecasts. The same build, running on the latest iOS, succeeds on most devices but consistently fails on a few. Strangely, the paired Apple Watch version retrieves the data without problems. Could WeatherKit be applying per-user throttling? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Screens added / removed continually when display turned off
I have a function in my app to detect if screens are added or removed, watching for notifications from NSApplication.didChangeScreenParametersNotification. I am seeing some strange behavior when the screen attached to a Mac mini is turned off, macOS will spit out hundreds of the didChangeScreenParametersNotification, all relating to a 'ghost' screen being added and then subsequently replaced with the original screen a second later. This cycle will go on for hours until the screen is turned back on again. I can confirm this also happens with the CoreGraphics equivalent, with flags .added and .removed being the only changes. I would imagine this creates immense churn for all apps watching for screen changes. I've tried debouncing the notifications but even with a delay of 10 seconds this is still being called hundreds of times while the computer is idle and the screen is off. One constant I can see is that the CGDisplayUnitNumber() for the 'ghost' display is always 0, while the logical unit number for the real screen is '1'. Is it safe to ignore screens with 0? I'm trying to find a reliable way to prevent heavy processing for 'false' screens. I'm afraid because this ghost screen has parameters so different to the actual screen, it's otherwise not possible to ignore it as it looks like a new screen. This issue is happening on real devices in production, and multiple users are affected. The same functionality continues to work correctly on Android. All requested product IDs are being returned in the notFoundIDs list of the queryProductDetails() response. We're quite puzzled by this issue as no clear cause has been identified so far. XCFramework Location Behavior Differs from Standalone App in Background/Sleep Mode
Hi Apple Dev Team & Community, We’ve encountered an issue with background location updates when using an XCFramework we’ve built from our main app. Context: We have a standalone app called TravelSafely that reliably performs background location updates and alerts, even during sleep mode. From this app, we extracted some core functionality into an XCFramework, including location management, and provided it as an SDK to a client. We created a demo app to test this SDK in isolation. Problem: In the demo app, we notice that location updates work fine in the foreground. However, in the background or sleep mode, location updates sometimes stop completely. When we bring the app to the foreground again, location resumes. This does not happen in the original standalone app. What We’ve Already Checked: UIBackgroundModes includes location Info.plist has the required permissions Location is started correctly using startUpdatingLocation We maintain strong references and use background tasks as needed Question: Why would an app using a binary XCFramework (with location logic) behave differently from the original app in terms of background execution? Is there any known issue or recommendation when working with SDKs/XCFrameworks that need to manage background tasks and location updates? Any insights or recommendations to maintain proper background behavior would be highly appreciated. Thank you!

Update Complications in WatchOS from iOS using WatchConnectivity?
I'm trying to update data displayed in my Watch Complications (WidgetKit). I have an iOS app that sends data to the Apple Watch using WCSession.default.transferUserInfo. However, the data only updates on the complications or widgets after I open the watchOS app manually. Ideally, I'd like the Watch widget/complication to reflect the updated data as soon as it's sent from the iPhone, without requiring the user to open the Watch app.

'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'Duplicate version checksums across stages detected.'
I have an iOS app using SwiftData with VersionedSchema. The schema is synchronized with an CloudKit container. I previously introduced some model properties that I have now removed, as they are no longer needed. This results in the current schema version being identical to one of the previous ones (except for its version number). This results in the following exception: 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'Duplicate version checksums across stages detected.' So it looks like we cannot have a newer schema version with an identical content to an older schema version. The intuitive way would be to re-add the old (identical) schema version to the end of the "schemas" list property in the SchemaMigrationPlan, in order to signal that it is the newest one, and to add a migration stage back to it, thus: public enum MySchemaMigrationPlan: SchemaMigrationPlan { public static var schemas: [any VersionedSchema.Type] { [ SchemaV100.self, SchemaV101.self, SchemaV100.self ] } public static var stages: [MigrationStage] { [ migrateV100toV101, migrateV101toV100 ] } However, I am not sure if this is the right way to go, as previously, as I wanted to write unit tests for schema migration and rollback, I tried defining an inverse for each migration stage, so that I could trigger a migration and a rollback from a unit test, which resulted in an exception saying that it is not supported to downgrade a VersionedSchema. I must admit that I solved the original problem by introducing a dummy model property that I will later remove. What would have been the correct approach?

How to use SwiftData with MVVM architecture?
Hello all! I'm still fairly new to SwiftData, but have recently integrated it into one of my apps which has been going great. Currently, I have this integrated into my project like so (code simplified for illustration): @main struct MyApp: App { var body: some Scene { WindowGroup { ContentView() } .modelContainer(for: Todo.self) } } struct ContentView: View { @Query(sort: \Todo.date) var todos: [Todo] @Environment(\.modelContext) var moc var body: some View { ... } } In my app, the ContentView struct then also contains business logic in the form of various methods to create and modify entities stored in SwiftData. In order to achieve better separation of concerns and make SwiftTesting the view easier, I'd love to move all this business logic code out into a view model. Unfortunately, I understand that this causes issues due to view models not having access to the SwiftUI environment, making it difficult to inject the model container into a view model and using that model to initialize queries. There are some approaches to this that I found which end up defining another layer on top of SwiftData, but I can see how doing that may result in state syncronization issues between what is stored in SwiftData and the model accessing it. Given that MVVM is so popular and widely used, is there a recommended approach of doing this in a consistent way while still preserving state safety between the SwiftData model and the view model? iOS 18 (22G5054d) Developer Beta broke Apple CarPlay
My 2025 Hyundai Tucson SEL was doing fine with Apple CarPlay until last night's update, now it refuses to see/use CarPlay, both by bluetooth and by cable. Mind you, was working perfectly fine yesterday, it still sees my wife's phone via bluetooth and my son's phone via cable. The Tucson's last over-the-air update was 5/23/25, as in, nothing has changed with the Tucson, or my other family phones, which leaves only one variable that changed, my iPhone updating to the latest iOS developer beta.

macOS 15.5 (Sequoia) – iCloud Drive Hydration/Sync Failures on M4 MBP
I’m seeing persistent issues with iCloud Drive hydration and Finder sync on a new M4 MacBook Pro running Sequoia 15.5 (24F74). The same folders hydrate correctly on other Macs (Intel and M1), but not on the M4. ✅ Tried: – killall bird – Safe Mode boot – Toggling iCloud Drive and System Settings > Apple ID – Isolating network, user profile, and running First Aid 🔍 Findings: – EtreCheck report shows consistent high CPU usage from bird with no resolution. – Console logs suggest bird is waiting on local metadata index. – No VPNs installed. No third-party sync tools active. I’ve sanitized and attached the EtreCheck report as text for reference (or can paste if needed). ❓ Questions: 1. Is this a known issue on M4 systems or Sequoia 15.5? 2. Could file system ownership have been impacted by command-line tools? 3. Is there a safe method to reset bird metadata or iCloud sync state locally? Any guidance from Apple or other developers would be appreciated. Thanks!

WeatherKit API inaccessible for some users
Hi All, I’m puzzled by this issue: my app uses WeatherKit to fetch hourly UV-index and temperature forecasts. The same build, running on the latest iOS, succeeds on most devices but consistently fails on a few. Strangely, the paired Apple Watch version retrieves the data without problems. Could WeatherKit be applying per-user throttling? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Screens added / removed continually when display turned off
I have a function in my app to detect if screens are added or removed, watching for notifications from NSApplication.didChangeScreenParametersNotification. I am seeing some strange behavior when the screen attached to a Mac mini is turned off, macOS will spit out hundreds of the didChangeScreenParametersNotification, all relating to a 'ghost' screen being added and then subsequently replaced with the original screen a second later. This cycle will go on for hours until the screen is turned back on again. I can confirm this also happens with the CoreGraphics equivalent, with flags .added and .removed being the only changes. I would imagine this creates immense churn for all apps watching for screen changes. I've tried debouncing the notifications but even with a delay of 10 seconds this is still being called hundreds of times while the computer is idle and the screen is off. One constant I can see is that the CGDisplayUnitNumber() for the 'ghost' display is always 0, while the logical unit number for the real screen is '1'. Is it safe to ignore screens with 0? I'm trying to find a reliable way to prevent heavy processing for 'false' screens. I'm afraid because this ghost screen has parameters so different to the actual screen, it's otherwise not possible to ignore it as it looks like a new screen.
