Is there a way to check if DDM(Declarative Device Management) is enabled on a device?
I'm the IT Admin in my company. We use Microsoft Intune, which is a Mobile Device Management tool, to manage our devices and apps. I created an app protection policy, restricting the data can only be shared between the allowed apps. For example, if our user want to copy the content in Outlook for iOS to WeChat or personal memo, the action will be blocked.
However, may be it's too strict, here is the scenario that we need to hadle: A user selected the content in the Outlook for iOS mail, and wanted to use the "translate" function to do translation. Before the app protection policy was deployed, he can do the translation successfully. And now, it's blocked.
Therefore, we need to find a way to exempt the app "Translate" so that users can do the translation successfully. We put the value "com.apple.Translate"(this is a package ID listed in the official document of Apple) to the exemption, but it's not working.
May I know what is the correct "value" for the iOS native Translate APP? I need to put this value to our app protection policy to exempt Translate app.
Thank you so much.

Hi,
We developed a Platform SSO extension for our IdP, Keycloak. It would be great to get some feedback on it:
https://francisaugusto.com/2025/Platform_single_sign_on_diy/
We are upgrading macOS (minor versions and potentially major versions) using a scripted approach:
Install the InstallAssistant package via installer
Trigger OS install via startosinstall
On MDM-managed assets, OS update policies appear to prohibit or interfere with the update flow. The update often fails with startosinstall reporting “Helper tool crashed…” during the “Preparing” phase.
Steps to Reproduce
On an MDM-enrolled Mac with OS update restriction/deferral policies applied, run:
sudo /usr/sbin/installer -pkg /Path/To/InstallAssistant.pkg -target / &&
echo 'MACOS_PASSWORD' | /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Sonoma.app/Contents/Resources/startosinstall
--agreetolicense
--forcequitapps
--stdinpass
--user MACOS_USER
Actual Result
Package installation reports success, but startosinstall fails during preparation with:
Standard Output
installer: Package name is macOS15.7_SoftwareUpdate
installer: Upgrading at base path /
installer: The upgrade was successful.
By using the agreetolicense option, you are agreeing that you have run this tool with the license only option and have read and agreed to the terms.
If you do not agree, press CTRL-C and cancel this process immediately.
Preparing to run macOS Installer...
Preparing: 0.0%
Preparing: 0.1%
...
Preparing: 24.9%
Standard Error
Helper tool crashed...
notes.log
Install.log is also attached.
Questions for Apple / Ask:
We suspect this crash is caused by MDM OS update restrictions/policies.
We need Apple’s recommended method to perform macOS updates (minor + major) when MDM is present, especially in environments where update deferrals/restrictions may be configured.
This is in reference to the feedback ticket
: https://feedbackassistant.apple.com/draft/57929340, we would like to know if there are any test enterprise websites that Apple can suggest to test passkeys declaration.
Is the possibility of programmatically recovering the enrolled email address associated with an iPad. We are currently working on a project that requires us to retrieve this information for our enrolled devices.
Could you please provide guidance or documentation on how we can achieve this programmatically? Specifically, we are interested in any APIs or frameworks that Apple provides for this purpose, as well as any necessary permissions or configurations that need to be in place.
Hello folks,
I stumbled upon a weird CNContact serialization problem. I use the Contacts framework to update the AIM field, which is one of the instantMessageAddresses within a single Contact. Here is the simplified code I used:
func updateAIMFieldOn(contact: CNContact, aimValue: String) {
do {
guard let mutableContact = contact.mutableCopy() as? CNMutableContact else {
logger.error("[CM] Couldn't update contact with aim \(aimValue)")
return
}
var updatedAddresses = mutableContact.instantMessageAddresses
updatedAddresses.append(CNLabeledValue(label: "", value: CNInstantMessageAddress(username: aimValue, service: CNInstantMessageServiceAIM)))
mutableContact.instantMessageAddresses = updatedAddresses
let saveRequest = CNSaveRequest()
saveRequest.update(mutableContact)
try CNContactStore().execute(saveRequest)
logger.verbose("Contact's AIM updated successfully!")
} catch {
logger.error("Couldn't update contact")
}
}
And after serializing the contact to data, and then deserializing, the contact got two AIM fields with the same value:
X-AIM;type=pref:some:part:of_my_aim_value
IMPP;X-SERVICE-TYPE=AIM;type=pref:some:part:of_my_aim_value
Why does it work in this manner? Is it possible that ":" char causes that? Format of my aim username is {some:part:of_my_aim_value}. I didn't find any information in the docs.
Thanks!
Hi there,
I am trying to create an IPsec policy for remote access for iOS devices. Is the full updated list with all the settings, which are supported?
I could only find this article:
https://support.apple.com/de-de/guide/deployment/depdf31db478/web
But I am sure it's not updated:
Authentication Algorithms: HMAC-MD5 or HMAC-SHA1.
Same for DH Groups 2-5
Hello,
I write my bachelor-thesis about geolocation data on an iPhone. I write a small app to get the actual coordinates and saved into a sqlite database. so far so far. Now I have a GPS-generator from R&S to simulate gps-data and satellites. I can simulate 6 satellites parallel to my "fake" geolocation. I write the app also on an Android -smartphone, this Android can display the Satellites-ID and the "fake" geolocation..thats fine for my thesis. But my iPhone would not display anything I this setup?
During outside the app would be deliver the actual coordinate, but with the signal.genarator I can't get coordinates.
I try GPS, Glosnass, Galileo and Beidoo but nothing happens on my iPhone 12mini.
The IOS is 18.1 and I use the core Location api.
Has anybody some ideas for me and my thesis?

Dear Apple Developer Team,
Following the rollout of iOS 26.x and the introduction of the iPhone 17, we have identified a critical issue affecting Mobile Device Management (MDM) enrolment and restore operations.
The issue appears to stem from the Device Management Profile configuration 'do_not_use_profile_from_backup' within Apple Business Manager (ABM), which currently defaults to False. This setting should be modified to True to ensure proper functionality.
When the profile remains set to False, organisations leveraging MDM encounter repeated failures during device backup and restore operations. Specifically, restoring a supervised or managed device triggers a persistent MDM registration loop, effectively preventing deployment of iPhone 17 devices in managed environments.
We recommend that Apple review and adjust the default Device Management Profile property within ABM to address this issue and restore full MDM compatibility for iOS 26.x and later.

The Center for Innovation in Education created a reading program designed to teach every single child to read, regardless of any supposed difficulty in learning. The Center conducted a ten-year study of its Reading Program’s effectiveness. Over those ten years, the Center placed 2,048 Reading Program kits in classrooms across America. More than 300,000 children took part in the Center’s study. Results: The Reading Program taught every single child to read in every single classroom, every single year, regardless of any child’s supposed reading readiness - including dyslexic, autistic, and even Down syndrome children. No failures then or in any of the many years that have followed.
Despite the Program’s success, educational publishers refused to publish it. Their refusals will be explained and hopefully counteracted in a book that is scheduled to be published in 2026. In response to publishers’ refusal to make the program available, the Center made it available as a free download from its website. The Center also made its program available as 14 free iPad apps.
While the apps can be searched for individually by their unique names, since the apps are interrelated and meant to complement one another, the first keyword assigned to all 14 apps was the same. That same keyword is still in its first position for every app.
The first keyword listed for each of the 14 apps is the word “Dekodiphukan”. That meant-to-be hard-to-read search word has worked well every year since the apps were introduced. However, in June of this year, that search term could find only 1 of the 14 apps.
We reported this problem to Apple Support on June 26th. It is now November, and the problem remains unresolved. The only response we receive each time we ask for an update on the resolution of this problem the answer every time is:
Reported search issues of this type require extensive review by Apple to determine whether it is valid and to confirm the appropriate action.
There is no other response. No update has ever been sent to us. There is no phone number I can find to call.
It was suggested to me by someone I spoke with in a different department at Apple Developers that I post my problem on the Developer Forum, in hopes that someone here can provide a suggestion for a way around this problem. Parents and teachers wishing to use our Reading Program with their children should not have to enter 14 different names to access our Reading Program.
Hi Apple team and community,
We’re currently integrating with the Apps and Books for Organizations API as part of our device management solution and would like to highlight a few critical points we've encountered — including a reliability issue, an enhancement suggestion, and a request for clarification on API rate limits.
1. Issue: Intermittent 403 Errors with stoken-authenticated-apps Endpoint
We are encountering intermittent 403 Forbidden responses from the stoken-authenticated-apps endpoint.
Approximately 30–35% of the requests fail with a 403 status code.
These failures are inconsistent — the same request (using the same Content Token and Storefront) may succeed upon retry.
All requests are properly authenticated and include the required Cookie and other headers as specified in the API documentation.
This issue is impacting our ability to reliably fetch app metadata at scale, particularly in workflows.
We’d like to know:
Is this a known issue?
Could it be due to a rate limit or token misconfiguration?
Are any changes required on our end to avoid these failures?
2. Enhancement Request: Include externalVersionId in versionHistory Response
The versionHistory extension currently returns:
versionString
releaseNotes
releaseDate
However, for Declarative Device Management (DDM) workflows such as App Pinning, we need the externalVersionId as well. Without it, we can't reliably correlate version metadata with the specific version ID required for pinning.
Adding externalVersionId would:
Enable precise version targeting during App Pinning
Improve reliability and automation in managed deployments
We request that Apple consider including externalVersionId in the versionHistory response to better support DDM-based app lifecycle management.
3. Rate Limit Clarification
We found the following note in the Apps and Books for Organizations API documentation:
"The Apps and Books for Organizations API limits the number of requests your app can make using a developer token within a specific period of time. If you exceed this limit, you’ll temporarily receive 429 Too Many Requests error responses for requests that use the token. This error resolves itself shortly after the request rate has reduced."
While this confirms that a rate limit is enforced, there is no detailed information about the thresholds — such as the number of allowed requests per minute, hour, or day per developer token.
To help us implement proper throttling and retry strategies, we request clarification on the following:
What is the exact rate limit threshold per developer token?
Are there per-endpoint limits, or is it a global cap for all requests using the token?
Does the API return a Retry-After header when the limit is exceeded?
What is the recommended backoff strategy for clients to follow when receiving 429 errors?
This information would help us implement efficient throttling and error handling logic.
Any insights from the Apple team or other developers who’ve encountered these issues would be greatly appreciated!

short version question:
why some users after deleting and downloading back my in-house app, cannot start the new process for approving developer, but instead it tries to start and then crashes immediately?
long question version
I am maintaining an in-house distributed enterprise app.
due to update in iOS 18 update here users need to trust the developer via a new procedure that involves restarting device and inserting the phone code.
after thousands (more or less 30.000) of users with no issue at all, some of them has this problem, the old (expired)trust seems to be persistent and never updated.
Standard events
a user deletes the app via settings > general > VPN & device management or via classic persistent touch procedure
checks no other presence of the app is on the device via spotlight.
since it is the only app with "MyDeveloperName" on the phone, if users goe back to VPN & device management screen, no app or developer will be present.
user downloads new version of the app. If taps directly on the icon there is a system alert with says the developer must be trusted.
a this point in settings > general > VPN & device management you can find a line with developer name, tapping on it we find a screen where user finds a white button with BLUE message "authorize MyDeveloperName" and follows procedure.
My issue is that some users get following different behavior, and I do not understand why:
❌ tapping on downloaded app icon: no alert, but app tries to start then crashes.
❌ going in VPN & device management screen there is only RED write button "delete app"
in both paths, working and not working, the app results "verified" in VPN & device management screen (Apple says old authorizations are preserved.)
Hello,
I am running into a bit of an issue with the Screen Timeout/Screen Lock setting and would like some clarification on.
First for a bit of context, I am enrolling personal iOS devices 18.0+ into the company MDM (Intune) with Account Driven User Enrollment. We are trying to set a screen timeout of 5 minutes and immediately after it asks for the passcode on the device, though this setting is not being applied and the device timeout setting can be set as "Never" on the user's end. This is a big security risk for the company I work for and and the issue with being HIPAA compliant.
According to the Microsoft Intune Support, "In iOS 18, when using Account-Driven User Enrollment for BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) scenarios, the screen lock timeout setting is indeed marked as “Not Applicable”. This is because Apple’s privacy-preserving model for personal devices restricts administrative control over system-level settings like screen lock or idle timeout."
I am needing clarification on the item mentioned from Microsoft Intune Support and if this setting is no longer able to be applied from the MDM with devices enrolled with Account Driven User Enrollment?
I want to install Chrome extension via configuration profile without user needing to go to System Settings and install profile manually.
Can i install configuraation profile by making user only interact with my app?
I originally posted here & was referred to post in developer forumsn.

There has to be someone else out here that's gone through this. I've tried everything I can think of, forums, reddit, Microsoft documentation.... just can't find any clear cut method of doing this.
I'm working on an InTune Mobile App Protection Policy. I know there are going to be some VPs out there asking why they can't use native iOS Apps, especially Apple Calendar, Contacts & Mail.
I have not been able to get anywhere, I always end up with this error.
Things I've tried:
Allow sync of native apps with work account
Putting in app exemptions (But I don't truly know if I know if I have the right values for this and there's no simple way of getting it from what I've seen. Having to download app to PC, finding config files, finding specific values.... that people say are hit or miss).
Allow data transfer of ALL Apps
What am I missing here? I'm pretty much giving up and just going to say sorry, you can't use Native apps.. Period!
Anyone have any experience with this, especially for Mail, Calendar & Contacts?
Thank you for anyone that can offer advice on this.

Hello,
We are currently deploying Apple devices in our organization using Apple Business Manager (ABM) and are looking for a long-term self-hosted MDM solution.
We initially considered MicroMDM, but since official support will end in December 2025, we are evaluating NanoMDM.
I would like to confirm:
Is NanoMDM a stable and production-ready option for long-term use with Apple Business Manager and Automated Device Enrollment (ADE)?
Does NanoMDM support all essential features like:
Supervision
Remote wipe
App deployment
Configuration profiles
Are there any limitations or known issues with using NanoMDM?
Are there any other open-source or lightweight MDM solutions Apple developers recommend that are actively maintained?
We are aiming for a reliable, secure, and future-proof self-hosted MDM setup.
Any guidance or shared experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Vijay Pratap Singh
