LanguageModelSession always returns very lengthy responses
No matter what, the LanguageModelSession always returns very lengthy / verbose responses. I set the maximumResponseTokens option to various small numbers but it doesn't appear to have any effect. I've even used this instructions format to keep responses between 3-8 words but it returns multiple paragraphs. Is there a way to manage LLM response length? Thanks.

Downloading my fine tuned model from huggingface
I have used mlx_lm.lora to fine tune a mistral-7b-v0.3-4bit model with my data. I fused the mistral model with my adapters and upload the fused model to my directory on huggingface. I was able to use mlx_lm.generate to use the fused model in Terminal. However, I don't know how to load the model in Swift. Do App Intent Domains work with Siri already?
Hi, guys. I'm writing about Apple Intelligence and I reached the point I have to explain App Intent Domains https://developer.apple.com/documentation/AppIntents/app-intent-domains but I noticed that there is a note explaining that these services are not available with Siri. I tried the example provided by Apple at https://developer.apple.com/documentation/AppIntents/making-your-app-s-functionality-available-to-siri and I can only make the intents work from the Shortcuts App, but not from Siri. Is this correct. App Intent Domains are still not available with Siri? Thanks

I have been using "apple" to test foundation models. I thought this is local, but today the answer changed - half way through explanation, suddenly guardrailViolation error was activated! And yesterday, all reference to "Apple II", "Apple III" now refers me to consult apple.com! Does foundation models connect to Internet for answer? Using beta 3.

SpeechTranscriber time indexes - detect pauses?
I'm experimenting with the new SpeechTranscriber in macOS/iOS 26, transcribing speech from a prerecorded mp4 file. Speed and quality are amazing! I've told the transcriber to include time indexes. Each run is always exactly one word, which can be very useful. When I look at the indexes the end of one run is always identical to the start of the next run, even if there's a pause. I'd like to identify pauses, perhaps to generate something like phrases for subtitling. With each run of text going into the next I can't do this, other than using punctuation - which might be rather rough. Any suggestions on detecting pauses, or getting that kind of metadata from the transcriber? Unwrapping LanguageModelSession.GenerationError details
Apologies if this is obvious to everyone but me... I'm using the Tahoe AI foundation models. When I get an error, I'm trying to handle it properly. I see the errors described here: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/foundationmodels/languagemodelsession/generationerror/context, as well as in the headers. But all I can figure out how to see is error.localizedDescription which doesn't give me much to go on. For example, an error's description is: The operation couldn’t be completed. (FoundationModels.LanguageModelSession.GenerationError error 2. That doesn't give me much to go on. How do I get the actual error number/enum value out of this, short of parsing that text to look for the int at the end? This one is: case guardrailViolation(LanguageModelSession.GenerationError.Context) So I'd like to know how to get from the catch for session.respond to something I can act on. I feel like it's there, but I'm missing it. Thanks!

Deterministic AI Safety Governor for iOS — Seeking Feedback on App Review Approach
I've built an iOS app with a novel approach to AI safety: a deterministic, pre-inference validation layer called Newton Engine. Instead of relying on the LLM to self-moderate, Newton validates every prompt BEFORE it reaches the model. It uses shape theory and semantic analysis to detect: • Corrosive frames (self-harm language patterns) • Logical contradictions (requests that undermine themselves) • Delegation attempts (asking AI to make human decisions) • Jailbreak patterns (prompt injection, role-play escapes) • Hallucination triggers (requests for fabricated citations) The system achieves a 96% adversarial catch rate across 847 test cases, with zero false positives on benign prompts. We are developing Apple AI for foreign markets and adapting it for iPhone models 17 and above. When the system language and Siri language are not the same—for example, if the system is in English and Siri is in Chinese—it can cause a situation where Apple AI cannot be used. So, may I ask if there are any other reasons that could cause Apple AI to be unavailable within the app, even if it has been enabled?

Pre-inference AI Safety Governor for FoundationModels (Swift, On-Device)
Greetings, and Happy Holidays, I've been building an on-device AI safety layer called Newton Engine, designed to validate prompts before they reach FoundationModels (or any LLM). Wanted to share v1.3 and get feedback from the community. The Problem Current AI safety is post-training — baked into the model, probabilistic, not auditable. When Apple Intelligence ships with FoundationModels, developers will need a way to catch unsafe prompts before inference, with deterministic results they can log and explain. What Newton Does Newton validates every prompt pre-inference and returns: Phase (0/1/7/8/9) Shape classification Confidence score Full audit trace If validation fails, generation is blocked. If it passes (Phase 9), the prompt proceeds to the model. v1.3 Detection Categories (14 total) Jailbreak / prompt injection Corrosive self-negation ("I hate myself") Hedged corrosive ("Not saying I'm worthless, but...") Is it possible to pass the streaming output of Foundation Models down a function chain
I am writing a custom package wrapping Foundation Models which provides a chain-of-thought with intermittent self-evaluation among other things. At first I was designing this package with the command line in mind, but after seeing how well it augments the models and makes them more intelligent I wanted to try and build a SwiftUI wrapper around the package. When I started I was using synchronous generation rather than streaming, but to give the best user experience (as I've seen in the WWDC sessions) it is necessary to provide constant feedback to the user that something is happening. I have created a super simplified example of my setup so it's easier to understand. Then there is the orchestrator, which I can't figure out. It receives the streamed ConversationReasoningItems from the Generator and is responsible for streaming those to SwiftUI later and also for evaluating each reasoning item after it is complete to see if it needs to be regenerated (to keep the model on-track). I want the users of the orchestrator to receive partially generated reasoning items as they are being generated by the generator. Later, when they finish, if the evaluation passes, the item is kept, but if it fails, the reasoning item should be removed from the stream before a new one is generated. So in-flight reasoning items should be outputted aggresively. I really am having trouble figuring this out so if someone with more knowledge about asynchronous stuff in Swift, or- even better- someone who has worked on the Foundation Models framework could point me in the right direction, that would be awesome!

Image object detection with video sizing issue
I'm working on my first model that detects bowling score screens, and I have it working with pictures no problem. But when it comes to video, I have a sizing issue. I added my model to a small app I wrote for taking a picture of a Bowling Scoring Screen, where my model will frame the screens in the video feed from the camera. My model works, but my boxes are about 2/3 the size of the screens being detected. I don't understand the theory of the video stream the camera is feeding me. What I mean is that I don't want to make tweaks to the size of my rectangles by making them larger, and I'm not sure if the video feed is larger than what I'm detecting in code. Questions I have are like is the video feed a certain resolution like 1980x something, or a much higher resolution in the 12 megapixel range? On a static image of say 1920x something, My alignment is perfect. AI says that it's my model training, that I'm training on square images but video is 16:9. Or that I'm producing 4:3 images in a 16:9 environment. I'm missing something here but not sure what it is. I already wrote code to force it to fit, but reverted back to trying for a natural fit.

ML contraints & Timeout clarificaitions for Message Filtering Extension
Hello everyone, I’m currently working with the Message Filtering Extension and would really appreciate some clarification around its performance and operational constraints. While the extension is extremely powerful and useful, I’ve found that some important details are either unclear or not well covered in the available documentation. There are two main areas I’m trying to understand better: Machine learning model constraints within the extension In our case, we already have an existing ML model that classifies messages (and are not dependant on Apple's built-in models). We’re evaluating whether and how it can be used inside the extension. Specifically, I’m trying to understand: Are there documented limits on the size of an ML model (e.g., maximum bundle size or model file size in MB)? What are the memory constraints for a model once loaded into memory by the extension? Under what conditions would the system terminate or “kick out” the extension due to memory or performance pressure? Message processing timeouts and execution constraints What is the timeout for processing a single received message? At what point will the OS stop waiting for the extension’s response and allow the message by default (for example, if the extension does not respond in time)? Any guidance, official references, or practical experience from Apple engineers or other developers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help,

Vision face landmarks shifted on iOS 26 but correct on iOS 18 with same code and image
I'm using Vision framework (DetectFaceLandmarksRequest) with the same code and the same test image to detect face landmarks. On iOS 18 everything works as expected: detected face landmarks align with the face correctly. But when I run the same code on devices with iOS 26, the landmark coordinates are outside the [0,1] range, which indicates they are out of face bounds. Apple on-device AI models
Hello, I am studying macOS26 Apple Intelligence features. I have created a basic swift program with Xcode. This program is sending prompts to FoundationModels.LanguageModelSession. It works fine but this model is not trained for programming or code completion. Xcode has an AI code completion feature. It is called "Predictive Code completion model". So, there are multiple on-device models on macOS26 ? Are there others ? Is there a way for me to send prompts to this "Predictive Code completion model" from my program ? Thanks

Apple managed asset pack for FoundationModels adapter on Testflight does not download (statusUpdates silent)
Hi, I'm stuck distributing a custom FoundationModels adapter as an Apple-hosted managed asset pack via TestFlight. Everything looks correctly configured end to end but the download just never starts and the statusUpdates sequence is silent. Here's my configuration: App Info.plist: <key>BAHasManagedAssetPacks</key><true/> <key>BAUsesAppleHosting</key><true/> <key>BAAppGroupID</key><string>group.com.fiuto.shared</string> Entitlement com.apple.developer.foundation-model-adapter on both the app and the asset downloader extension. The asset downloader extension uses StoreDownloaderExtension , returning SystemLanguageModel.Adapter.isCompatible(assetPack) from shouldDownload , and the app group on app and asset download extension is the same. I have exported the adapter with toolkit 26.0.0, obtaining: adapterIdentifier = fmadapter-FiutoAdapter-1234567 I have packaged the asset pack using xcrun ba-package and uploaded it to App Store Connect via Transporter, and I get the "ready for internal and external testing" state on App Store Connect, and I have uploaded my app build on TestFlight after the asset pack was marked as ready. Important things: I don't get any error in Console as well; I tested this as an internal tester on TestFlight Tested on iPhone 16 Pro, running iOS 26.3.1 - more than 50GB of free space Apple Intelligence is enabled and set in Italian Background downloads are enabled. I've already checked if the adapter identifier matches regex fmadapter-\w+-\w+ , i tried to reinstall the build, rebooting the device, reupload the asset pack, and also checked that the foundation models adapter entitlement is present on both targets. Is there a known way to diagnose why statusUpdates is silent (no log subsystem seems to show why) in this exact configuration? Is there maybe any delay between asset pack approval on App Store Connect and availability to TestFlight internal testers that I do not know of? I've checked other threads for applicable solutions and I've found that this is similar to the symptom reported in this thread: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/805140 / (FB20865802) and also i'm internal tester and on stable iOS 26.3.1, so the limitations from this thread: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/793565 shouldn't apply. Apologies if this is obvious to everyone but me... I'm using the Tahoe AI foundation models. When I get an error, I'm trying to handle it properly. I see the errors described here: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/foundationmodels/languagemodelsession/generationerror/context, as well as in the headers. But all I can figure out how to see is error.localizedDescription which doesn't give me much to go on. For example, an error's description is: The operation couldn’t be completed. (FoundationModels.LanguageModelSession.GenerationError error 2. That doesn't give me much to go on. How do I get the actual error number/enum value out of this, short of parsing that text to look for the int at the end? This one is: case guardrailViolation(LanguageModelSession.GenerationError.Context) So I'd like to know how to get from the catch for session.respond to something I can act on. I feel like it's there, but I'm missing it. Thanks!

Deterministic AI Safety Governor for iOS — Seeking Feedback on App Review Approach
I've built an iOS app with a novel approach to AI safety: a deterministic, pre-inference validation layer called Newton Engine. We are developing Apple AI for foreign markets and adapting it for iPhone models 17 and above. When the system language and Siri language are not the same—for example, if the system is in English and Siri is in Chinese—it can cause a situation where Apple AI cannot be used. So, may I ask if there are any other reasons that could cause Apple AI to be unavailable within the app, even if it has been enabled?

Pre-inference AI Safety Governor for FoundationModels (Swift, On-Device)
Greetings, and Happy Holidays, I've been building an on-device AI safety layer called Newton Engine, designed to validate prompts before they reach FoundationModels (or any LLM). Wanted to share v1.3 and get feedback from the community. The Problem Current AI safety is post-training — baked into the model, probabilistic, not auditable. When Apple Intelligence ships with FoundationModels, developers will need a way to catch unsafe prompts before inference, with deterministic results they can log and explain. Is it possible to pass the streaming output of Foundation Models down a function chain
I am writing a custom package wrapping Foundation Models which provides a chain-of-thought with intermittent self-evaluation among other things. At first I was designing this package with the command line in mind, but after seeing how well it augments the models and makes them more intelligent I wanted to try and build a SwiftUI wrapper around the package. When I started I was using synchronous generation rather than streaming, but to give the best user experience (as I've seen in the WWDC sessions) it is necessary to provide constant feedback to the user that something is happening. I have created a super simplified example of my setup so it's easier to understand. Then there is the orchestrator, which I can't figure out. It receives the streamed ConversationReasoningItems from the Generator and is responsible for streaming those to SwiftUI later and also for evaluating each reasoning item after it is complete to see if it needs to be regenerated (to keep the model on-track). I want the users of the orchestrator to receive partially generated reasoning items as they are being generated by the generator. Later, when they finish, if the evaluation passes, the item is kept, but if it fails, the reasoning item should be removed from the stream before a new one is generated. So in-flight reasoning items should be outputted aggresively. I really am having trouble figuring this out so if someone with more knowledge about asynchronous stuff in Swift, or- even better- someone who has worked on the Foundation Models framework could point me in the right direction, that would be awesome!

Image object detection with video sizing issue
I'm working on my first model that detects bowling score screens, and I have it working with pictures no problem. But when it comes to video, I have a sizing issue. I added my model to a small app I wrote for taking a picture of a Bowling Scoring Screen, where my model will frame the screens in the video feed from the camera. My model works, but my boxes are about 2/3 the size of the screens being detected. I don't understand the theory of the video stream the camera is feeding me. What I mean is that I don't want to make tweaks to the size of my rectangles by making them larger, and I'm not sure if the video feed is larger than what I'm detecting in code. Questions I have are like is the video feed a certain resolution like 1980x something, or a much higher resolution in the 12 megapixel range? On a static image of say 1920x something, My alignment is perfect. AI says that it's my model training, that I'm training on square images but video is 16:9. Or that I'm producing 4:3 images in a 16:9 environment. I'm missing something here but not sure what it is. I already wrote code to force it to fit, but reverted back to trying for a natural fit.

ML contraints & Timeout clarificaitions for Message Filtering Extension
Hello everyone, I’m currently working with the Message Filtering Extension and would really appreciate some clarification around its performance and operational constraints. While the extension is extremely powerful and useful, I’ve found that some important details are either unclear or not well covered in the available documentation. There are two main areas I’m trying to understand better: Machine learning model constraints within the extension In our case, we already have an existing ML model that classifies messages (and are not dependant on Apple's built-in models). We’re evaluating whether and how it can be used inside the extension. Specifically, I’m trying to understand: Are there documented limits on the size of an ML model (e.g., maximum bundle size or model file size in MB)? What are the memory constraints for a model once loaded into memory by the extension? Under what conditions would the system terminate or “kick out” the extension due to memory or performance pressure? Message processing timeouts and execution constraints What is the timeout for processing a single received message? At what point will the OS stop waiting for the extension’s response and allow the message by default (for example, if the extension does not respond in time)? Any guidance, official references, or practical experience from Apple engineers or other developers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help,

Vision face landmarks shifted on iOS 26 but correct on iOS 18 with same code and image
I'm using Vision framework (DetectFaceLandmarksRequest) with the same code and the same test image to detect face landmarks. On iOS 18 everything works as expected: detected face landmarks align with the face correctly. But when I run the same code on devices with iOS 26, the landmark coordinates are outside the [0,1] range, which indicates they are out of face bounds. Hello, I am studying macOS26 Apple Intelligence features. I have created a basic swift program with Xcode. This program is sending prompts to FoundationModels.LanguageModelSession. It works fine but this model is not trained for programming or code completion. Xcode has an AI code completion feature. It is called "Predictive Code completion model". So, there are multiple on-device models on macOS26 ? Are there others ? Is there a way for me to send prompts to this "Predictive Code completion model" from my program ? Thanks

Apple managed asset pack for FoundationModels adapter on Testflight does not download (statusUpdates silent)
Hi, I'm stuck distributing a custom FoundationModels adapter as an Apple-hosted managed asset pack via TestFlight. Everything looks correctly configured end to end but the download just never starts and the statusUpdates sequence is silent. Here's my configuration: App Info.plist: <key>BAHasManagedAssetPacks</key><true/> <key>BAUsesAppleHosting</key><true/> <key>BAAppGroupID</key><string>group.com.fiuto.shared</string> Entitlement com.apple.developer.foundation-model-adapter on both the app and the asset downloader extension. The asset downloader extension uses StoreDownloaderExtension , returning SystemLanguageModel.Adapter.isCompatible(assetPack) from shouldDownload , and the app group on app and asset download extension is the same. I have exported the adapter with toolkit 26.0.0, obtaining: adapterIdentifier = fmadapter-FiutoAdapter-1234567 I have packaged the asset pack using xcrun ba-package and uploaded it to App Store Connect via Transporter, and I get the "ready for internal and external testing" state on App Store Connect, and I have uploaded my app build on TestFlight after the asset pack was marked as ready. Important things: I don't get any error in Console as well; I tested this as an internal tester on TestFlight Tested on iPhone 16 Pro, running iOS 26.3.1 - more than 50GB of free space Apple Intelligence is enabled and set in Italian Background downloads are enabled. I've already checked if the adapter identifier matches regex fmadapter-\w+-\w+ , i tried to reinstall the build, rebooting the device, reupload the asset pack, and also checked that the foundation models adapter entitlement is present on both targets. Is there a known way to diagnose why statusUpdates is silent (no log subsystem seems to show why) in this exact configuration? Is there maybe any delay between asset pack approval on App Store Connect and availability to TestFlight internal testers that I do not know of? I've checked other threads for applicable solutions and I've found that this is similar to the symptom reported in this thread: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/805140 / (FB20865802) and also i'm internal tester and on stable iOS 26.3.1, so the limitations from this thread: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/793565 shouldn't apply. Any Recommandation for a Image Enhance and Denoise Model
I'm really not familiar with ML, but I need a model that can enhance and denoise 4k video stream at 30fps. I have tried to search latest papers but they all have very complex structure, and I don't think I can convert them to mlmodel. So can anyone give me any recommandation for such models? If there is an existing mlmodel, that would be great!
