Trying to validate external reference identifiers with SecTrustEvaluateWithError Method by setting reference Ids to SecPolicyCreateSSL() & SecPolicyCreateWithProperties()
But two concerns are -
Validates for correct reference IDs but gives error for combination of wrong & correct reference Ids
398 days validity works mandatorily before reference Ids check.
Is there any other to validate external reference Ids?, which give flexibility
To pass multiple combinations of reference IDs string (wrong, correct, IP, DNS)
To validate reference ID without days validity of 398.
Please suggest. Any help here is highly appreciated.

Hi,
I am working on a react native module used for tis connection and I am trying to implement the possibility to use a custom certificate/Private key.
I have already implemented on android but on iOS I am getting hard times, we cannot find lots of resources, api is different on macOS and iOS with subtle differences so after having tested SO, chatgpt, ... I am trying here:
I even tried to use an internal api since it seems ffmpeg uses it but with no success.
I have attached my current code because it does not fit here.
to sump up after having inserted cert and private key I try to get a SecIdentityRef but it fails. I assume that it's not enough to simply add certain and private key...
// Query for the identity with correct attributes
NSDictionary *identityQuery = @{
(__bridge id)kSecClass: (__bridge id)kSecClassIdentity,
(__bridge id)kSecMatchLimit: (__bridge id)kSecMatchLimitOne,
(__bridge id)kSecReturnRef: @YES,
(__bridge id)kSecReturnData: @YES,
(__bridge id)kSecAttrLabel: @"My Certificate",
//(__bridge id)kSecUseDataProtectionKeychain: @YES
};
SecIdentityRef identity = NULL;
status = SecItemCopyMatching((__bridge CFDictionaryRef)identityQuery, (CFTypeRef *)&identity);
TcpSocketClient.txt
SecItemCopyMatching with kSecClassIdentity fails,
SecIdentityCreate return NULL...
So please help and indicates what I am doing wrong and how I am supposed getting a SecIdentityRef.
Thanks
Hi,
I am using CryptoKit in my app. I am getting an error sometimes with some users. I log the description to Firebase but I am not sure what is it exactly about.
CryptoKit.CryptoKitError error 2
CryptoKit.CryptoKitError error 3
I receive both of these errors. I also save debug prints to a log file and let users share them with me. Logs are line-by-line encrypted but after getting these errors in the app also decryption of log files doesn't work and it throws these errors too.
I couldn't reproduce the same error by myself, and I can't reach the user's logs so I am a little blind about what triggers this.
It would be helpful to understand what these errors mean.
Thanks
Hello Experts,
I am in need of your help with this feedback from the App Reviewer.
Issue Description: One or more purpose strings in the app do not sufficiently explain the use of protected resources. Purpose strings must clearly and completely describe the app's use of data and, in most cases, provide an example of how the data will be used.
Next Steps: Update the location purpose string to explain how the app will use the requested information and provide a specific example of how the data will be used. See the attached screenshot.
Resources: Purpose strings must clearly describe how an app uses the ability, data, or resource. The following are hypothetical examples of unclear purpose strings that would not pass review:
"App would like to access your Contacts"
"App needs microphone access"
Feedback #2
"Regarding 5.1.1, we understand why your app needs access to location. However, the permission request alert does not sufficiently explain this to your users before accessing the location.
To resolve this issue, it would be appropriate to revise the location permission request, specify why your app needs access, and provide an example of how your app will use the user's data.
To learn more about purpose string requirements, watch a video from App Review with tips for writing clear purpose strings. We look forward to reviewing your app once the appropriate changes have been made."
May I know how can I update my purpose string? I appealed on the first feedback by explaining what is the purpose of it but got the Feedback #2.
TYIA!!
Hi,
when creating a CryptoTokenKit extension according to https://developer.apple.com/documentation/cryptotokenkit/authenticating-users-with-a-cryptographic-token, it is neccessary to register it under the securityagent in order to make the CTK usable before login. i.e. we want to run
sudo -u _securityagent /Applications/HostApp.app/Contents/MacOS/HostApp
However, even with the empty application the command fails with
illegal hardware instruction sudo -u _securityagent /Applications/HostApp.app/Contents/MacOS/HostApp
I see that it always crashes when the HostApp is sandboxed, but it does not work even without sandboxing (i am sharing the error report message below).
i actually noticed that when the HostApp is sandboxed and I run the above command, the extension starts to be usable even before login, even though i see the HostApp crash. The same does not happen without the sandbox
So I am curious how to in fact properly register the CTK extension under security agent? Also am not sure how to unregister it from the _securityagent
thank you for your help

Trying to apply 'always trust' to certificate added to keychain using both SecItemAdd() and SecPKCS12Import() with SecTrustSettingsSetTrustSettings().
I created a launchdaemon for this purpose.
AuthorizationDB is modified so that any process running in root can apply trust to certificate.
let option = SecTrustSettingsResult.trustRoot.rawValue
// SecTrustSettingsResult.trustAsRoot.rawValue for non-root certificates
let status = SecTrustSettingsSetTrustSettings(secCertificate, SecTrustSettingsDomain.admin, [kSecTrustSettingsResult: NSNumber(value: option.rawValue)] as CFTypeRef).
Above code is used to trust certificates and it was working on os upto 14.7.4.
In 14.7.5 SecTrustSettingsSetTrustSettings() returns errAuthorizationInteractionNotAllowed.
In 15.5 modifying authorization db with AuthorizationRightSet() itself is returning errAuthorizationDenied.Tried manually editing authorization db via terminal and same error occurred.
Did apple update anything on Security framework?
Any other way to trust certificates?
I'm seeing some odd behavior which may be a bug. I've broken it down to a least common denominator to reproduce it. But maybe I'm doing something wrong.
I am opening a file read-write. I'm then mapping the file read-only and private:
void* pointer = mmap(NULL, 17, PROT_READ, MAP_FILE | MAP_PRIVATE, fd, 0);
I then unmap the memory and close the file. After the close, eslogger shows me this:
{"close":{"modified":false,[...],"was_mapped_writable":false}}
Which makes sense.
I then change the mmap statement to:
void* pointer = mmap(NULL, 17, PROT_READ, MAP_FILE | MAP_SHARED, fd, 0);
I run the new code and and the close looks like:
{"close":{"modified":false, [....], "was_mapped_writable":true}}
Which also makes sense.
I then run the original again (ie, with MAP_PRIVATE vs. MAP_SHARED) and the close looks like:
{"close":{"modified":false,"was_mapped_writable":true,[...]}
Which doesn't appear to be correct.
Now if I just open and close the file (again, read-write) and don't mmap anything the close still shows:
{"close":{ [...], "was_mapped_writable":true,"modified":false}}
And the same is true if I open the file read-only.
It will remain that way until I delete the file. If I recreate the file and try again, everything is good until I map it MAP_SHARED.
I tried this with macOS 13.6.7 and macOS 15.0.1.
Why are we doing this nonsense?
We want to be able to run builds in a sandbox such that they can only see the paths they are intended to depend on, to improve reproducibility.
With builds with a very large number of dependencies, there's a very large number of paths added to the sandbox, and it breaks things inside libsandbox.
Either it hits some sandbox length limit (sandbox-exec: pattern serialization length 66460 exceeds maximum (65535), Nix issue #4119, worked around: Nix PR 12570), or it hits an assert (this report; also Nix issue #2311).
The other options for sandboxing on macOS are not viable; we acknowledge sandbox-exec and sandbox_init_with_parameters are deprecated; App Sandbox is inapplicable because we aren't an app.
Our use case is closer to a browser, and all the browsers use libsandbox internally.
We could possibly use SystemExtension or a particularly diabolical use of Virtualization.framework, but the former API requires notarization which is close to a no-go for our use case as open source software: it is nearly impossible to develop the software on one's own computer, and it would require us to ship a binary blob (and have the build processes to produce one in infrastructure completely dissimilar to what we use today); it also requires a bunch of engineering time.
Today, we can pretend that code signing/notarization doesn't exist and that we are writing an old-school Unix daemon, because we are one.
The latter is absolutely diabolical and hard to implement.
See this saga about the bug we are facing: Nix issue #4119, Nix issue #2311, etc.
What is going wrong
I can't attach the file fail.sb as it is too large (you can view the failing test case at Lix's gerrit, CL 2870) and run this:
$ sandbox-exec -D _GLOBAL_TMP_DIR=/tmp -f fail.sb /bin/sh
Assertion failed: (diff <= INSTR_JUMP_NE_MAX_LENGTH), function push_jne_instr, file serialize.c, line 240.
zsh: abort sandbox-exec -D _GLOBAL_TMP_DIR=/tmp -f fail.sb /bin/sh
Or a stacktrace:

Quinn, in your post "App Groups: macOS vs iOS: Fight!", you mention that an app must meet at least one of four criteria to access an app group container without user intervention:
Your app is deployed via the Mac App Store (A).
Or via TestFlight when running on macOS 15.1 or later (B).
Or the app group ID starts with your app’s Team ID (C).
Or your app’s claim to the app group is authorised by a provisioning profile embedded in the app (D) [1].
Our app is distributed directly (Developer ID), so it doesn't meet the first two criteria. We already had the app group ID set up to match the iOS ID (without our Team ID) and changing it now would affect our users already-stored data, so criteria C isn't really an option either.
That brings us to criteria D. We've added the App Groups Capability to our App ID on the Developer site and creating a Developer ID provisioning profile with this App ID. However, for some reason the App Group Capability is not included in the provisioning profile.
How then do we go about satisfying criteria D ("your app’s claim to the app group is authorised by a provisioning profile embedded in the app (D)")?
If this is impossible, how can we migrate our user's data away from the affected container?
First, I do not publish my application to the AppStore, but I need to customize a sandbox environment. It seems that sandbox-exec cannot configure entitlements, so I have used some other APIs, such as sandbox_compile_entitlements and sandbox_apply_container. When encountering the entitlement "com.apple.security.files.user-selected.read-only", I am unsure how to correctly write sandbox profile to implement this. Can anyone help me?
Hi! I am trying to run the demo app(SampleEndpointApp) from the WWDC2020 presentation(link).
Here are the steps I followed in order to run the app:
I submitted a request for the Endpoint Security entitlement and got the approval from the Apple Support team.
Created an identifier and assigned Endpoint Security capability.
Updated the Bundle Identifier in ViewController.m and in the Extension target.
Built and copied the app bundle to /Application folder.
Ran the app, clicked "Install Extension" and got the confirmation message that everything went well.
Looking into the logs, I see the following :
(libEndpointSecurity.dylib) Failed to open service: 0xe00002d8: Caller lacks TCC authorization for Full Disk Access
I keep getting the same message even after granting SampleEndpointApp Full Disk Access in Privacy & Security.
System : macOS Sequoia 15.1.1
Could you please assist me with this issue?

Hello, I want to access the Docker socket API from inside the macOS App Sandbox. The method queries the API using curl with --unix-socket. However, the Sandbox blocks the request, as shown by the log: curl(22299) deny(1) network-outbound /Users/user/.docker/run/docker.sock Outgoing network traffic is generally allowed, but access to the Docker Unix socket is denied.
Here’s the code I’m using:
private func executeDockerAPI() -> String {
let process = Process()
let pipe = Pipe()
process.executableURL = URL(fileURLWithPath: "/usr/bin/curl")
process.arguments = [
"--unix-socket", "/Users/user/.docker/run/docker.sock",
"http://127.0.0.1/containers/json"
]
process.standardOutput = pipe
process.standardError = pipe
do {
try process.run()
process.waitUntilExit()
let data = pipe.fileHandleForReading.readDataToEndOfFile()
if let output = String(data: data, encoding: .utf8) {
return output
} else {
return "Error while decoding"
}
} catch {
return "Error running command: \(error.localizedDescription)"
}
}
Is there any entitlement or sandbox configuration I’m missing to allow access to /Users/user/.docker/run/docker.sock from inside the sandbox?
I've made a simple command line app that requires Screen recording permission.
When I ran it from Xcode, it prompts for a permission and once I allowed it from the settings, it runs well.
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <CoreGraphics/CGDisplayStream.h>
int main() {
printf("# Start #\n");
if (CGPreflightScreenCaptureAccess()) {
printf("# Permitted.\n");
} else {
printf("# Not permitted.\n");
if (CGRequestScreenCaptureAccess() == false) {
printf("# CGRequestScreenCaptureAccess() returning false\n");
}
}
size_t output_width = 1280;
size_t output_height = 720;
dispatch_queue_t dq = dispatch_queue_create("com.domain.screengrabber", DISPATCH_QUEUE_SERIAL);
CGError err;
CGDisplayStreamRef sref = CGDisplayStreamCreateWithDispatchQueue(
1,
output_width,
output_height,
'BGRA',
NULL,
dq,
^(
CGDisplayStreamFrameStatus status,
uint64_t time,
IOSurfaceRef frame,
CGDisplayStreamUpdateRef ref
) {
printf("Got frame: %llu, FrameStatus:%d \n", time, status);
}
);
err = CGDisplayStreamStart(sref);
if (kCGErrorSuccess != err) {
printf("Error: failed to start streaming the display. %d\n", err);
exit(EXIT_FAILURE);
}
while (true) {
usleep(1e5);
}
CGDisplayStreamStop(sref);
printf("\n\n");
return 0;
}
Now I want to execute this from terminal, so I went to the build folder and
typed the app name.
cd /Users/klee/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/ScreenStreamTest-ezddqbkzhndhakadslymnvpowtig/Build/Products/Debug
./ScreenStreamTest
But I am getting following output without any prompt for permission.
# Start #
# Not permitted.
# CGRequestScreenCaptureAccess() returning false
Error: failed to start streaming the display. 1001
Is there a something I need to consider for this type of command line app?
I have a sandboxed Mac app which I can grant access to a folder using an NSOpenPanel. Once it’s been granted access it can enumerate the contents of the folder just fine. If I rename the folder while the app is open and then make the app enumerate the folder’s contents again, though, it seems to have lost access.
What’s the recommended way to have an app’s sandbox “track” files as they’re moved around the filesystem? (NSDocument handles this for you, from what I can tell.) I’ve managed to hack something together with a combination of Dispatch sources and security-scoped bookmarks, but it feels like there must be an easier solution …
I have a launch daemon that's using the Endpoint Security framework which also is causing high memory usage (in Activity Monitor memory column shows for example 2GB and Real Memory 11MB) when building a big project in Xcode. Is it some kind of memory caching by the system? leaks -forkCorpse seems to not show any leaks.
How can I attach with heap or Instruments without the process being killed with "ENDPOINTSECURITY, Code 2 EndpointSecurity client terminated because it failed to respond to a message before its deadline"?

I have Authorisation Plugin which talks using XPC to my Launch Daemon to perform privileged actions.
I want to protect my XPC service narrowing it to be called from known trusted clients.
Now since I want authorisation plugin code which is from apple to call my service, I cannot use my own team id or app group here.

Q: Just wanted community feedback, is this correct approach?
I am using the CryptoKit SecureEnclave enum to generate Secure Enclave keys. I've got a couple of questions:
What is the lifetime of these keys?
When I don't store them somewhere, how does the Secure Enclave know they are gone? Do backups impact these keys? I.e. can I lose access to the key when I restore a backup?
Do these keys count to the total storage capacity of the Secure Enclave?
If I recall correctly, the Secure Enclave has a limited storage capacity. Do the SecureEnclave key instances count towards this storage capacity?
What is the dataRepresentation and how can I use this?
I'd like to store the Secure Enclave (preferably not in the Keychain due to its limitations). Is it "okay" to store this elsewhere, for instance in a file or in the UserDefaults?
Can the dataRepresentation be used in other apps?
If I had the capability of extracting the dataRepresentation as an attacker, could I then rebuild that key in my malicious app, as the key can be rebuilt with the Secure Enclave on the same device, or are there measures in place to prevent this (sandbox, bundle id, etc.)
I've tried all kinds of ways to get a SecKeyRef from the .p8 file I downloaded from my App Store Connect account. The key itself looks OK, as openssl gives this result:
openssl asn1parse -in 359UpAdminKey.p8
0:d=0 hl=3 l= 147 cons: SEQUENCE
3:d=1 hl=2 l= 1 prim: INTEGER :00
6:d=1 hl=2 l= 19 cons: SEQUENCE
8:d=2 hl=2 l= 7 prim: OBJECT :id-ecPublicKey
17:d=2 hl=2 l= 8 prim: OBJECT :prime256v1
27:d=1 hl=2 l= 121 prim: OCTET STRING [HEX DUMP]:30...
My method for creating the key is:
'- (SecKeyRef)privateKeyFromP8:(NSURL *)p8FileURL error:(NSError **)error {
// Read the .p8 file
NSData *p8Data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:p8FileURL options:0 error:error];
if (!p8Data) {
return NULL;
}
// Convert P8 to base64 string, removing header/footer
NSString *p8String = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:p8Data encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];
NSArray *lines = [p8String componentsSeparatedByString:@"\n"];
NSMutableString *base64String = [NSMutableString string];
for (NSString *line in lines) {
if (![line containsString:@"PRIVATE KEY"]) {
[base64String appendString:line];
}
}
// Decode base64 to raw key data
NSData *keyData = [[NSData alloc] initWithBase64EncodedString:base64String options:0];
if (!keyData) {
if (error) {
*error = [NSError errorWithDomain:@"P8ImportError"
code:1
userInfo:@{NSLocalizedDescriptionKey: @"Failed to decode base64 data"}];
}
return NULL;
}
// Set up key parameters
NSDictionary *attributes = @{
(__bridge NSString *)kSecAttrKeyType: (__bridge NSString *)kSecAttrKeyTypeECSECPrimeRandom,
(__bridge NSString *)kSecAttrKeyClass: (__bridge NSString *)kSecAttrKeyClassPrivate,
(__bridge NSString *)kSecAttrKeySizeInBits: @256
};
// Create SecKeyRef from the raw key data
CFErrorRef keyError = NULL;
SecKeyRef privateKey = SecKeyCreateWithData((__bridge CFDataRef)p8Data,
(__bridge CFDictionaryRef)attributes,
&keyError);
if (!privateKey && keyError) {
*error = (__bridge_transfer NSError *)keyError;
NSError *bridgeError = (__bridge NSError *)keyError;
if (error) {
*error = bridgeError; // Pass the bridged error back to the caller
}
NSLog(@"Key Error: %@", bridgeError.localizedDescription);
}
return privateKey;
}

I get this error from SecKeyCreateWithData
The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -50 - EC private key creation from data failed)
Filed a DTS incident, but they won't be back until after the New Year.
I've tried all kinds of things. Various AI chatbots, etc. Nothing seems to be working. I'm sure the problem is something elementary, but have spent hours on this with no luck.
Help, please.
I have developed framework and want to use this framework in authplugin which added on same project in different target
That plugin target is working fine without framework, once I am adding framework the authplugin is not working
Auth-plugin I am using to change in screen-saver plist
