SE-0471 Improved Custom SerialExecutor isolation checking for Concurrency Runtime link: SE-0471 notes: This is a welcome extension to SE-0424. SE-0472 Starting tasks synchronously from caller context link: SE-0472 introduces: immediate[Detached](…), addImmediateTask[UnlessCancelled](…), notes: This introduces the concept of an immediate task, one that initially uses the calling execution context. This is one of those things where, when you need it, you really need it. But it’s hard to summary when you might need it, so you’ll just have to read the proposal (-: In Progress The proposals in this section didn’t make Swift 6.2. SE-0406 Backpressure support for AsyncStream link: SE-0406 availability: returned for revision notes: Currently AsyncStream has very limited buffering options. This was a proposal to improve that. This feature is still very much needed, but the outlook for this proposal is hazy. My best guess is that something like this will land first in the Swift Async Algorithms package. See this thread. SE-NNNN Closure isolation control link: SE-NNNN introduces: @inheritsIsolation availability: not yet approved notes: This aims to bring the currently experimental @_inheritActorContext attribute into the language officially. It’s not clear how this will play out given the changes in SE-0461. Best way to convert HTML to PDF in a C# app on macOS?
I'm working on a cross-platform C# application that converts HTML content to PDF. The goal is to render dynamic HTML pages (including CSS and JavaScript) as high-quality, printable PDF files. Additionally, I need to support features like adding headers/footers, securing PDFs with passwords, and controlling user permissions. While everything works well on Windows, I need some help rendering consistency and handling permissions on MacOS.

Swift6 race warning
I'm trying to fix some Swift6 warnings, this one seems too strict, I'm not sure how to fix it. The variable path is a String, which should be immutable, it's a local variable and never used again inside of the function, but still Swift6 complains about it being a race condition, passing it to the task What should I do here to fix the warning?

Swift 6 and 5 - Strict concurrency: complete and WKNavigationDelegate decidePolicyFor not being called.
decidePolicyFor delegate method: import WebKit @objc extension DocumentationVC { func webView(_ webView: WKWebView, decidePolicyFor navigationAction: WKNavigationAction, decisionHandler: @escaping (WKNavigationActionPolicy) -> Void) Being called just alright in swift 5 minimal concurrency. Raising concurrency to complete with swift 5 or swift 6. Changing the code to avoid warnings: @preconcurrency import WebKit @objc extension DocumentationVC { func webView(_ webView: WKWebView, decidePolicyFor navigationAction: WKNavigationAction, decisionHandler: @escaping (WKNavigationActionPolicy) -> Void) { The delegate method is not being called. Changing back to swift 5 concurrency minimal - it is called. Looking at WKNavigationDelegate: WK_SWIFT_UI_ACTOR @protocol WKNavigationDelegate <NSObject> - (void)webView:(WKWebView *)webView decidePolicyForNavigationAction:(WKNavigationAction *)navigationAction decisionHandler:(WK_SWIFT_UI_ACTOR void (^)(WKNavigationActionPolicy))decisionHandler WK_SWIFT_ASYNC(3); Changing the delegate method to: func webView(_ webView: WKWebView, decidePolicyFor navigationAction: WKNavigationAction, decisionHandler: @escaping @MainActor (WKNavigationActionPolicy) -> Void) { And it is called across swift 5 concurrency minimal to complete to swift 6. I thought, the meaning of @preconcurrency import WebKit was to keep the delegate without @MainActor before the (WKNavigationActionPolicy) still matching regardless the swift concurrency mode? My point is - this can introduce hidden breaking changes? I didn't see this documented anyhow at: https://www.swift.org/migration/documentation/migrationguide/. decidePolicyFor is an optional method - so if signature 'mismatches' - there will be no warning on not-implementing the delegate method. How do we catch or diagnose irregularities like this? Is it something @preconcurrency import WebKit should be ensuring and it is not? Is this delegate mismatch a bug on swift side or something we should be taking care of while migrating? If it is on us, how do we diagnose these potential mismatches?

Playing Timed Sound Effects in Background
Hi, I'm relatively new to iOS development and kindly ask for some feedback on a strategy to achieve this desired behavior in my app. My Question: What would be the best strategy for sound effect playback when an app is in the background with precise timing? Is this even possible? Context: I created a basic countdown timer app (targeting iOS 17 with Swift/SwiftUI.). Countdown sessions can last up to 30-60 mins. When the timer is started it progresses through a series of sub-intervals and plays a short sound for each one. I used AVAudioPlayer and everything works fine when the app is in the foreground. I'm considering switching to AVAudioEngine b/c precise timing is very important and the AIs tell me this would have better precision. I'm already setting "App plays audio or streams audio/video using AirPlay" in my Plist, and have configured: AVAudioSession.sharedInstance().setCategory(.playback, mode: .default, options: .mixWithOthers) Curiously, when testing on my iPhone 13 mini, sounds sometimes still play when the app is in the background, but not always. What I've considered: Background Tasks: Would they make any sense for this use-case? Seems like not if the allowed time is short &amp; limited by the system. Pre-scheduling all Sounds: Not sure this would even work and seems like a lot of memory would be needed (could be hundreds of intervals). ActivityKit Alerts: works but with a ~50ms delay which is too long for my purposes. Pre-Render all SFX to 1 large audio file: Seems like a lot of work and processing time and probably not worth it. I hope there's a better solution. I'd really appreciate any feedback.

SwiftData Query filter().first crashed in iOS18.2
Hi There, I have a iOS App which has been published and purely managing data by SwiftData. I use following simple codes everywhere in Views: ... @Query var items: [Item] .... if let firstItem = items.first( where: {...}) { ... Then I encountered crash at Query that _items.wrapperdValue has some errors. Then I tried to split first(where...) into ordinary way: let filteredItems = items.filter(...) if let firstItem = filteredItems.first { ... It runs OK. Is it a bug in SwiftData in 18.2 or I missed some steps to facilitate SwiftData macros?

AppleScriptLauncher Menu App
I'm primarily an AppleScript writer and only a novice programmer, using ChatGPT to help me with the legwork. It has helped me to write a functioning app that builds a menu structure based on the scripts I have in the Scripts directory used in the script menu and then runs the applescripts. When I distribute the app to my desktop and run it, the scripts that access other apps, like InDesign will cause it to launch, but not actually do anything. I included the ids for each app in the entitlements dictionary and have given the app full disk access in system settings, but it's not functioning as I'd expect. I know there are apps like Alfred that allow you to run scripts from a keystroke, but I'm building this for others I work with so they can also access info about each script, what it does, and how to use it from the menu, as well as key commands to run them. Not sure what else to say, but if this sounds like a simple fix to anyone, please let me know.

Ambiguous use of 'textField' in Xcode 26
func textField( _ textField: UITextField, shouldChangeCharactersIn range: NSRange, replacementString string: String ) -&gt; Bool { if let delegate = delegate, let shouldChangeCharactersIn = delegate.textField { return shouldChangeCharactersIn(textField, range, string) } return true } This is from an extension extension TextInput: UITextFieldDelegate, ObservableTextFieldDelegateProtocol { The delegate is already a UITextFieldDelegate, but when you click on the error, it returns 7 instances of: "Found this candidate in module 'UIKit' (UIKit.UITextFieldDelegate.textField)" This doesn't give an error in Xcode 16. Is this an Xcode 26 bug?

Image Not Displaying on Some Devices – Same Code, Inconsistent Behavior
I'm encountering an issue where certain images are not displaying on some iOS devices, while the same code works perfectly on others. There’s no error or crash — just some images fail to load or display. I've confirmed the image URLs and formats are correct. orientation transaction token
Hello Im having an error in swiftUI project of mine. I use fullscreencover to navigate through views. Normally it s been working but one point it doesn't. I go through MainMenu -> SomeOtherView -> GameView -> AfterGameView -> SomeOtherView -> MainMenu. When it comes to mainmenu at last, it s showing main menu for a glimpse of a look and then goes back to GameView. Parameter Errors - procedural vs. optional
So I’m writing a program, as a developer would - ‘with Xcode.’ Code produced an error. The key values were swapped. The parameters suggested were ‘optional parameters variables.’ “var name: TYPE? = (default)” var name0: TYPE ============================= name0 = “super cool” ‘Name is not yet declared at this point provided with x - incorrect argument replace ExampleStruct(name:”supercool”) should be x - incorrect argument replace ExampleStruct(name0:”supercool”) ============================= In swift, there is a procedural prioritization within the constructor calling process. Application calls constructor. Constructor provides constructor signature. Signature requires parameters & throws an error if the params are not in appropriate order. - “got it compiler; thank you, very much” Typically, when this occurs, defaults will be suggested. Often the variable type. Ie String, Bool. such as: StructName(param1:Int64, param2:Bool) (Recently, I have seen a decline in @Apple’s performance in many vectors.) As stated before, the key value pairs were out of sequence. The optionals were suggested instead of the required parameters. This leads me to believe that there is an order of operations in the calling procedure that is being mismanaged. I.e. regular expression, matching with optional. This confuses these with [forced, required] parameters, and the mismanagement of ‘key: value’ pairs. this is a superficial prognosis and would like to know if anyone has any insight as to why this may occur. Could it be a configuration setting? Is it possibly the network I connected to bumped into something. Etc.. I appreciate any and all feedback. evaluateJavaScript callback is significantly slow on macOS 26.2 for iOS App on Mac
Hello, After upgrading to macOS 26.2, I’ve noticed a significant performance regression when calling evaluateJavaScript in an iOS App running on Mac (WKWebView, Swift project). Observed behavior On macOS 26.2, the callback of evaluateJavaScript takes around 3 seconds to return. This happens not only for: evaluateJavaScript("navigator.userAgent") but also for simple or even empty scripts, for example: evaluateJavaScript("") On previous macOS versions, the same calls typically returned in ~200 ms. Additional testing I created a new, empty Objective-C project with a WKWebView and tested the same evaluateJavaScript calls. In the Objective-C project, the callback still returns in ~200 ms, even on macOS 26.2. Question Is this a known issue or regression related to: iOS Apps on Mac, Swift + WKWebView, or behavioral changes in evaluateJavaScript on macOS 26.2? Any information about known issues, internal changes, or recommended workarounds would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. How do I locate and this Bundle Error
❌ Could not find email_ai.py in the app bundle. Available files: [] The error above is what I’m encountering. I’ve placed the referenced file both in the project directory and inside the app. However, every time I remove and reinsert the file into the folder within the app, it prompts me to designate the targets—I select all, but this doesn’t resolve the issue. I’m unsure how to properly reference the file so that it is recognised and included in the bundle. Why Actor-isolated property cannot be passed 'inout' to 'async' function call?
Considering below dummy codes: @MainActor var globalNumber = 0 @MainActor func increase(_ number: inout Int) async { // some async code excluded number += 1 } class Dummy: @unchecked Sendable { @MainActor var number: Int { get { globalNumber } set { globalNumber = newValue } } @MainActor func change() async { await increase(&number) //Actor-isolated property 'number' cannot be passed 'inout' to 'async' function call } } I'm not really trying to make an increasing function like that, this is just an example to make everything happen. As for why number is a computed property, this is to trigger the actor-isolated condition (otherwise, if the property is stored and is a value type, this condition will not be triggered). Under these conditions, in function change(), I got the error: Actor-isolated property 'number' cannot be passed 'inout' to 'async' function call. My question is: Why Actor-isolated property cannot be passed 'inout' to 'async' function call? What is the purpose of this design? If this were allowed, what problems might it cause?

Strange crash when using .values from @Published publisher
