XCode not making bridging header file?
Hi, I'm trying to add Swift code to my Obj-C project. I've gone through all the tutorials and troubleshooting advice I can find online, no dice. I would appreciate any help, thank you so much in advance. I add a new swift file to my Obj-C project XCode offers to create a bridging header file for me, yes please New .swift file and .h file are added to my project no problem Header file shows up in build settings no problem I add a new class to my new swift file ("@objc class HelloPrinter: NSObject") When I build the app, nothing is generated in the bridging header file and the class is obviously inaccessible to my obj-c code Is this supposed to work? My understanding is that it's supposed to work. Somewhat concerning is the text that XCode puts in the bridging header file when it's created: "Use this file to import your target's public headers that you would like to expose to Swift." I don't want to use this bridging header file for anything. I want XCode to GENERATE STUFF in the bridging file. I also don't want to expose anything to Swift. I want the opposite to happen. So I don't get this text at all. Thanks in advance again.

Crash when Mutating Array of Tuples with String Property from Multiple Threads
Hi Apple Developer Community, I'm facing a crash when updating an array of tuples from both a background thread and the main thread simultaneously. Why is the crash avoided when the tuple contains only primitive types like Int? Is there an underlying memory management issue with value types containing reference types like String? Any explanation about this behavior and best practices for thread-safe mutation of such arrays would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Can I use @_implementationOnly import in my Framework
We have FrameworkA which needs to use another FrameworkB internally to fetch a token. Now when I try to use this FrameworkA, we are seeing an issue with internal framework i.e. No such module 'FrameworkB'. But when I use @_implementationOnly import for the internal FrameworkB, I didn't see any issues. So just wanted to check If I can go ahead and use this @_implementationOnly import flag in Production?

Function types as return types

Issue with Swift 6 migration issues
We are migrating to swift 6 from swift 5 using Xcode 16.2. we are getting below errors in almost each of our source code files : Call to main actor-isolated initializer 'init(storyboard:bundle:)' in a synchronous non isolated context Main actor-isolated property 'delegate' can not be mutated from a nonisolated context Call to main actor-isolated instance method 'register(cell:)' in a synchronous nonisolated context Call to main actor-isolated instance method 'setup()' in a synchronous nonisolated context Few questions related to these compile errors. Some of our functions arguments have default value set but swift 6 does not allow to set any default values. This requires a lot of code changes throughout the project. This would be lot of source code re-write. Using annotations like @uncheck sendable , @Sendable on the class (Main actor) name, lot of functions within those classes , having inside some code which coming from other classes which also showing main thread issue even we using @uncheck sendable. There are so many compile errors, we are still seeing other than what we have listed here. Fixing these compile errors throughout our project, would be like a re-write of our whole application, which would take lot of time. In order for us to migrate efficiently, we have few questions where we need your help with. Below are the questions. Are there any ways we can bypass these errors using any keywords or any other way possible? Can Swift 5 and Swift 6 co-exist? so, we can slowly migrate over a period of time.

Equatable with default actor isolation of MainActor
I filed the following issue on swiftlang/swift on GitHub (Aug 8th), and a followup the swift.org forums, but not getting any replies. As we near the release of Swift 6.2, I want to know if what I'm seeing below is expected, or if it's another case where the compiler needs a fix. protocol P1: Equatable { } struct S1: P1 { } // Error: Conformance of 'S1' to protocol 'P1' crosses into main actor-isolated code an can cause data races struct S1Workaround: @MainActor P1 { } // OK // Another potential workaround if `Equatable` conformance can be moved to the conforming type. protocol P2 { } struct S2: Equatable, P2 { } // OK There was a prior compiler bug fix which addressed inhereted protocols regarding @MainActor. For Equatable, one still has to use @MainActoreven when the default actor isolation is MainActor. Also affects Hashable and any other protocol inheriting from Equatable.

How to integrate data from a web service into an array

cell.textLabel?.text breaking if a number value is in an array
Hi the below array and code to output a list item works fine: var quotes = [ [ "quote": "I live you the more ...", "order": "1" ], [ "quote": "There is nothing permanent ...", "order": "2" ], [ "quote": "You cannot shake hands ...", "order": "3" ], [ "quote": "Lord, make me an instrument...", "order": "4" ] ] cell.textLabel?.text = quotes[indexPath.row]["quote"] However if I change the "order" values to be numbers rather than text like below then for the above line I get an error message in Xcode "No exact matches in call to subscript". Please could someone tell me how to make it work with the numbers stored as numbers? Can't use Link in .systemLarge widget
I just added a .systemLarge widget to my app, but I can't get Links to work. I want the user to be able to tap one of the four rows in my widget - like the EmojiRangers example - but I can't get it to work. I watched a Developer video from WWDC20: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2020/10036?time=223 The guy, Izzy, 'simply' embeds an HStack in a Link, and hey presto! It all works. But that doesn't happen for me. There's clearly some code in the background that runs. I already have .widgetURL working for .systemSmall and .systemMedium widgets, and I don't need to use Links on those two types. Those work by sending a URL to .onOpenURL { incomingURL in ... All good there, no issues. I've wrapped each row in the large widget in a Link with the URL of something like myappurlscheme://widgetTapped/widgetId (it's the same url as that used in the small and medium widgets). I build & run. I tap a row. It doesn't act as though a row is tappable (it doesn't go slightly transparent), and just opens the app without hitting .onOpenURL or anything else. Nothing in my scene delegate is triggered. Is there a specific delegate method that gets called? Do I need to set up some awful intents? I'm not using any sort of NavigationStack here; that model doesn't fit my app. Any ideas? Thanks.

Why doesn’t getAPI() show up in autocomplete despite having a default implementation in a protocol extension?
I’m working on a project in Xcode 16.2 and encountered an issue where getAPI() with a default implementation in a protocol extension doesn’t show up in autocomplete. Trailing closure bug?
i am trying to build my code and have ran into this error. Warning: Reference to captured var 'hashBag' in concurrently-executing code
I get many warnings like this when I build an old project. I asked AI chatbot which gave me several solutions, the recommended one is: var hashBag = [String: Int]() func updateHashBag() async { var tempHashBag = hashBag // make copy await withTaskGroup(of: Void.self) { group in group.addTask { tempHashBag["key1"] = 1 } group.addTask { tempHashBag["key2"] = 2 } } hashBag = tempHashBag // copy back? } My understanding is that in the task group, the concurrency engine ensures synchronized modifications on the temp copy in multiple tasks. I should not worry about this. My question is about performance. What if I want to put a lot of data into the bag? Does the compiler do some kind of magics to optimize low level memory allocations? For example, the temp copy actually is not a real copy, it is a special reference to the original hash bag; it is only grammar glue that I am modifying the copy.

Timeline refresh issue for widget on ios 18.2

I expect to show view1 immediately and view2 6 seconds later. You get the correct response on iOS17. But the 6 second delay function on the discovery code in iOS18.2 takes effect immediately, view1 flashes, view2 appears immediately instead of waiting 6 seconds to appear.

Swift 6 concurrency. Apple Watch App target and -disable-dynamic-actor-isolation.
I've got a watch app, still with storyboard, WKInterfaceController and WatchConnectivity. After updating it for swift 6 concurrency I thought I'd keep it for a little while without swift 6 concurrency dynamic runtime check. So I added -disable-dynamic-actor-isolation in OTHER_SWIFT_FLAGS, but it doesn't seem to have an effect for the Apple Watch target. Without manually marking callbacks where needed with @Sendable in dynamic checks seem to be in place. swiftc invocation is as (includes -disable-dynamic-actor-isolation): swiftc -module-name GeoCameraWatchApp -Onone -enforce-exclusivity\=checked ... Apple Accelerate libSparse performance
I've created a Julia interface for Apple Accelerate's libSparse, via calling the library functions as if they were C (@ccall). I'm interested in using this in the context of power systems, where the sparse matrix is the Jacobian or the ABA matrix from a sparse grid network. However, I'm puzzled by the performance. I ran a sampling profiler on repeated in-place solves of Ax = b for a large sparse matrix A and random dense vectors b. (A is size 30k, positive definite so Cholesky factorization.) The 2 functions with the largest impact are _SparseConvertFromCoordinate_Double from libSparse.dylib, and BLASStateRelease from libBLAS.dylib. That strikes me as bizarre. This is an in-place solve: there should be minimal overheard from allocating/deallocating memory. Also, it seems strange that the library would repeatedly convert from coordinate form. Is this expected behavior? Thinking it might be an artifact of the Julia-C interface, I wrote up a similar program in C/Objective-C. I didn't profile it, but timing the same operation (repeated in-place solves of Ax = b for random vectors b, with the same matrix A as in the Julia) gave the same duration. SwiftData and 'NSKeyedUnarchiveFromData' should not be used to for un-archiving and will be removed in a future release
I get this red warning in Xcode every time my app is syncing to the iCloud. My model has only basic types and enum that conform to Codable so i'm not sure what is the problem. App is working well, synchronization works. But the warning doesn't look good. Maybe someone has idea how to debug it.
