Using Picture-in-Picture for Background Audio Calls on iOS
I’m developing an app with audio calling functionality, and I’d like to take advantage of Picture-in-Picture (PiP) so that when the user moves the app to the background, the ongoing call can remain minimized on the Home screen. Based on my research, it seems possible to display a view in PiP mode and have it play, and I haven’t found any documentation stating that this is prohibited. Could you please confirm if this is allowed?

Question about Shield customization limits in ManagedSettingsUI (videos, text length, personalization)
Hi everyone, I’m currently developing a parental control app that uses the Screen Time API (FamilyControls, ManagedSettings, DeviceActivity). I have a question regarding the customization limits of the Shield UI in ManagedSettingsUI. From the documentation, I understand that we can customize the ShieldConfiguration (background color, blur style, icon, title, subtitle, button labels, etc.). However, I’d like to clarify a few points before finalizing the design: 1. Is it allowed (or technically possible) to display custom media content, such as videos, animations, or interactive elements, inside a custom Shield? 2. Are there limitations on the text length for the title and subtitle fields (e.g. maximum number of characters, multiline support, truncation behavior)? 3. Can the Shield be personalized per user (for example, showing a different title or color scheme based on user preferences or device state)? 4. Are there App Store Review restrictions or UI guidelines that define what a Shield should or should not contain (for instance, whether the Shield can resemble a mini-app experience)? I want to ensure that the implementation fully complies with Apple’s technical and design expectations before submission. Thanks in advance for any official clarification or best practices on how far we can go with Shield customization! Best regards, Ferdinand

Unable to locate my stickers in message app after installed my app
My sticker app was rejected when I submitted it to App Store Connect. Reason: "We were unable to locate your stickers in message app after installed your app." When I checked on an iOS18 device, this was correct. However, my stickers is visible when I dragged the half-modal(like sheetPresentationController) part. I hope what I need to do to get the stickers to display initially. My code(Xcode16.2) class StickerViewController: MSStickerBrowserViewController { var stickers = [MSSticker]() override func viewDidLoad() { super.viewDidLoad() loadStickers() } override var stickerSize: MSStickerSize { get { return .small } } func loadStickers() { var imageSetPath = "en" for index in 1...20 { var strIndex = "" strIndex = "stmp" + String(index) + imageSetPath createSticker(assetLocation: "\(strIndex)", assetDescription: "\(strIndex)") } } func createSticker(assetLocation: String, assetDescription: String) { guard let path = Bundle.main.path(forResource: assetLocation, ofType: "png") else { return } let url = URL(fileURLWithPath: path) do { let sticker = try MSSticker(contentsOfFileURL: url, localizedDescription: assetDescription) stickers.append(sticker) } catch { print(error) } } } extension StickerViewController { override func numberOfStickers(in stickerBrowserView: MSStickerBrowserView) -> Int { return stickers.count } override func stickerBrowserView(_ stickerBrowserView: MSStickerBrowserView, stickerAt index: Int) -> MSSticker { return stickers[index] } }

CallKit speaker problem
I’m developing a VoIP app that uses Linphone and CallKit. Everything works as expected until the user enables the speaker on the native CallKit screen. After that, all subsequent calls start with the speaker already on. Even if I call AVAudioSession.sharedInstance().overrideOutputAudioPort(.none), it gets overridden when the call starts (when Linphone begins playing the ringtone). I tested this behavior in WhatsApp, and it seems to work correctly there.

Clarification on ManagedSettings Shield Precedence (Application vs. Category)
I'm encountering what appears to be a specific precedence behavior with ManagedSettingsStore.shield and would appreciate some further clarification. My current understanding is that category-level shields take precedence over individual app allowances. My test involved... Using FamilyActivityPicker to select a single target application (e.g., "Calculator," which falls under the "Utilities" category). Using FamilyActivityPicker again to select the category of that target application. I applied shields using ManagedSettingsStore (named .individual): store.shield.applicationCategories = .specific(Set([utilitiesCategoryToken])) store.shield.applications = Set([calculatorApplicationToken]) Result: The calculator app remains shielded, suggesting that the category-level shield on Utilities overrides the attempt to allow the individual app. I also tried this using a single picker, but received only the category token instead of all application tokens in that category. Is this observed precedence (where store.shield.applicationCategories effectively overrides store.shield.applications for apps within the shielded category) the intended behavior? If so, are there any mechanisms available within the main app's capabilities (potentially using a Device Activity Report Extension or Shield Extension) to allow a specific ApplicationToken if its corresponding ActivityCategoryToken is part of the store.shield.applicationCategories set? Essentially, can store.shield.applications be used to create "allow exceptions" for individual apps that fall into an otherwise shielded category? Additionally, I mentioned that selecting an entire category in the picker only returns the opaque category token, not any application tokens. Is there any way in which I could return both the category and all application tokens by just selecting the category? Any insights or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Can Apple's CDN have a file cached even if it's not on the website anymore? Thanks for any help!

Live Caller ID Lookup - Error on Refresh PIR Parameters
Hello. I've implemented the Live Caller ID Lookup feature in my app, but sometimes I get a weird error. When I call LiveCallerIDLookupManager.shared.refreshPIRParameters(...) from my app, it sometimes throws an error: Error Domain=com.apple.CipherML Code=1100 "Unable to query status due to errors: The resource could not be loaded because the App Transport Security policy requires the use of a secure connection." UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=Unable to query status due to errors: The resource could not be loaded because the App Transport Security policy requires the use of a secure connection., NSUnderlyingError=0x118f65740 {Error Domain=NSURLErrorDomain Code=-1022 "The resource could not be loaded because the App Transport Security policy requires the use of a secure connection." UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=The resource could not be loaded because the App Transport Security policy requires the use of a secure connection., NSErrorFailingURLKey=http://www.example.com/config}}} What does this error mean? And where did the example.com part come from? What should I do to get rid of this error? My Service URL is hardcoded in the Live Caller ID Lookup Extension of my app and it is definitely not example.com.

Link to app store game that does not yet exist
Hi all, Pretty new here, so please remember when you were trying hard. I am creating an IOS app that will generate a link where you have a room-id and a unique id. This will be sent (normal sms. email, copy/paste values etc) to another user. If the person receiving the link does not have the app installed, I would like it to go to the app store for download, however the app is currently not finished and therefore I can't provide a proper link. How do you deal with that? Thanks in advance

FinanceKit - Any way to get merchant location info from transactions?
Hi all — I’m building a Wallet-style transaction details view using FinanceKit and I’m running into a gap around merchant location. What I’m seeing FinanceKit gives me great core fields (amount, currency, status, dates, MCC, merchantName, transactionDescription), but I’m not seeing any address or place/location metadata on a Transaction. For example, a small/local merchant where I can plausibly infer a single place: Fetched transaction: Transaction( id: 8D142B16-3E0E-40B8-945A-2E7C0CF65F1D, accountID: 14939CF4-DBC3-4A9D-8292-5FEA495B8461, transactionAmount: 47.24 USD, creditDebitIndicator: .debit, transactionDescription: "Local Dental Care", originalTransactionDescription: "Local Dental Care", merchantCategoryCode: 8021, merchantName: "Local Dental Care", transactionType: .pointOfSale, status: .booked, transactionDate: 2025-08-20 22:27:50 +0000, postedDate: 2025-08-21 11:22:06 +0000 ) Because this appears to be a single-location practice, I can usually resolve it to a place using MapKit search heuristics. But for big-box chains, I don’t get enough signal to determine which store: Fetched transaction: Transaction( id: 3F8E9F74-7565-4D24-9038-8FD709184799, accountID: 14939CF4-DBC3-4A9D-8292-5FEA495B8461, transactionAmount: 441.77 USD, creditDebitIndicator: .debit, transactionDescription: "The Home Depot", originalTransactionDescription: "The Home Depot", merchantCategoryCode: 5200, merchantName: "The Home Depot", transactionType: .pointOfSale, status: .booked, transactionDate: 2023-12-27 23:07:02 +0000, postedDate: 2023-12-29 03:09:41 +0000 ) There’s no store number, address, phone, or any stable identifier. With hundreds of locations, I can’t deterministically choose a map pin or fetch the right brand assets. What I’m trying to achieve I’d like to replicate the Apple Wallet experience: show a small map snapshot and merchant visuals (logo/name that match Apple Maps / the Place Card) on the transaction detail screen. Without a location hint, I have to either: Ask users to pick a store manually, or Make a guess based on a coarse, app-defined region …neither of which feels great. Questions Is there any way in FinanceKit today to access merchant location or a resolvable identifier (e.g., address, city/state, store number, Apple Maps place identifier, network merchant ID/MID, terminal ID, etc.)? If not, can FinanceKit expose additional merchant metadata (even opt-in / privacy-preserving) to enable Wallet-like enrichment? A few examples that would unblock this: merchantAddress (or components: street/city/region/postalCode/country) merchantPhone (often unique per store) merchantIdentifier (stable per physical location, e.g., network merchant ID / store number) mapsPlaceURL or mapsPlaceIdentifier (linkage to the Apple Maps Place Card) brandAssetURL (logo/brand reference similar to what Wallet shows) With even one of the above, I could reliably: Render an accurate map snapshot, Fetch the correct brand assets, and Avoid prompting the user or inferring via fuzzy search. Context / constraints I do not want to (and shouldn’t need to) request or monitor the user’s device location to resolve a merchant’s store location. For small merchants, MapKit text search is often enough. For large chains, I need a store-level identifier. If there’s an existing field or recommended approach I’m missing, I’d love pointers. If not, please consider this a feature request for richer merchant metadata in FinanceKit so developers can build Wallet-quality transaction details. Thanks!

Automatic App Icon Style Change in iOS 26
After updating from iOS 18 to iOS 26, our app icon appears to have automatically received the new 'Liquid Glass' effect. We confirmed that this change occurred without us releasing a new app update. My questions are: Is this a system behavior where iOS 26 automatically applies the new icon style to existing apps? If so, is it possible for a developer to control or customize this effect? I am also wondering if there are any methods other than using Icon Composer.

Universal link not working
My ASA file is located here https://staging.docyt.com/apple-appsite-association It downloads fine. It does not have .json extension and neither does it reside inside the ./well-known folder. Should it work? Because opening the link https://staging.docyt.com/reset-password is not opening the app installed via TestFlight . Installing via XCode however works fine. Please help

CallKit UI with speaker button is not functional - Only speaker mode is enabled
An issue with the CallKit UI, specifically regarding the functionality of the speaker button. When a user initiates a video call with CallKit and then, using the existing CallKit session, initiates an audio call, there are no issues with CallKit or the audio. However, if the user terminates the video call from the CallKit UI, the active CallKit session ends. To resume the ongoing audio call, we report a new CallKit call upon the end call trigger. While there are no issues with this reporting, the CallKit UI does not provide an audio route for the built-in receiver, and the speaker button remains unresponsive. IPA was build on SDK 18 and running on iOS beta 26. Issue is NOT seen with SDK18 and running iOS 18.x or lower devices. Feedback - FB18855566

Shielding all apps
I am trying to create an app that allows users to opt in and apply a shield to all of their apps during a specified amount of time each day, but they can always turn the shield off from our app or directly ignore the shield for 1 minute from a shield button. It is important that the user doesn't choose what apps to apply a shield to through the activity picker, as some users might not apply it to all apps. Currently I am doing everything I described in my app and shield all apps and webdomain categories with this: store.shield.applicationCategories = .all() store.shield.webDomainCategories = .all() But the, store.shield.applicationCategories = .all(), seems to block everything except for some system apps like Messages, Phone, FaceTime, Maps, Clock, Settings, Safari, Find My, Clock, Compass, Health, etc. It does block some system apps like Weather, Photos, Camera, Measure, App Store, etc. I know I can fully block applications from it's bundle identifier but I do not want to remove apps from the home screen. I only want to apply a shield to all of them. I have read every apple documentation possible about this and can't see a way to do it, currently how I am doing it seems to be the best way but it is still not enough. Even blocking a specific category token taken from the activity picker won't apply to some system level applications under it unless you get all the application tokens and apply the shield by applications and not category. I am really looking for help to see if there is something I can do to achieve my app's goal.

[Proposal] Sense & Store – Intelligent App Suggestions from Safari (with On-Device AI)
Hello everyone, I’d like to propose Sense & Store — a seamless integration between Safari and the App Store, powered by on-device AI, designed to understand what users are reading, searching, or selecting in Safari, and suggest relevant apps that match their current context or intention. 🔍 Key Idea: “Sense” the user’s need through intelligent analysis of web content, then “Store” — offer the most relevant app, either already installed or available in the App Store. 🌟 Core Features: • AI-powered context detection directly inside Safari • Real-time app suggestions based on user intent • Smart overlays when selecting text or data (e.g., phone numbers, emails, tools) • Privacy-first: All AI runs on-device (Apple Neural Engine) • Instant App Launch or Installation via StoreKit ✅ Examples: • Reading an article on productivity? → Suggests Notion or Things. • Looking up meditation tips? → Recommends Calm or Headspace. • Selecting a phone number? → Offers CRM or spam blocker apps. • Exploring code samples? → Suggests Pythonista or developer tools. 🔒 Privacy & Performance: • 100% on-device intelligence (no data sent to servers) • Follows Apple’s privacy framework • Works with SafariKit + StoreKit + CoreML ⸻ I’m happy to provide a full prototype roadmap and technical architecture. Feedback and collaboration are welcome! Would love to hear your thoughts — especially from developers who build for Safari, App Clips, or work with CoreML. Thanks! Creating ApplicationToken with Decoder from string
I've been working a lot with the FamilyControls API and App Shield recently but have encountered a problem with no documentation. I used the FamilyActivitySelection to select the app store to shield(This is just for testing), and then printed out the application token: 1wfY¸êB ò S« öi #×(É?âðw ù/jQ ¿ J ïE¢? ·¿ º<Òd?ý r7¥Ãn N átJ¹ÿ85B_{VAF fC8. ,,¸¯3 T7F ±õü; ¹?v@¯ô Ä \-õ# Ò I know the application token is a Codable object so I was wondering, How do I create an application token using the Token<Application> initializer init(from: any Decoder) throws Creates a new instance by decoding from the given decoder. Using the above data? Do I have to encode first in order to decode it? For reference, the code I tried to use is: newValue.applicationTokens.encode(to: JSONEncoder) if let encoded = try? JSONEncoder().encode(newValue.applicationTokens) { data = encoded print(String(data: data, encoding: .utf8)!) } if let app = try? JSONDecoder().decode(Token<Application>.self, from: data) { let token = Application(token: app) print(token) } else { print("didn't work") } But it prints didn't work every time. What should I do differently?

Screen Time shield not hiding after “Access App” custom button on Shield on TestFlight (works in local debug)
Hi, I am building an iOS app that uses FamilyControls / ManagedSettings to restrict apps. Flow of my app: In my main app, the user chooses which apps to restrict using FamilyActivityPicker (for example, they select Instagram). I save the selection in an App Group. I then use ManagedSettingsStore in the main app to add those app tokens into store.shield.applications, so a Screen Time shield appears when the user opens Instagram. In my ShieldConfigurationExtension, I show a shield UI with a primary button called “Access App”. In my ShieldActionExtension, when the user taps “Access App”, I want to immediately hide the shield and allow Instagram. To hide the shield, I am using this code in my ShieldActionExtension: final class ShieldActionExtension: ShieldActionDelegate { // ... override func handle( action: ShieldAction, for application: ApplicationToken, completionHandler: @escaping (ShieldActionResponse) -> Void ) { switch action { case .primaryButtonPressed: handlePrimaryButton(for: application, completionHandler: completionHandler) case .secondaryButtonPressed: completionHandler(.close) @unknown default: completionHandler(.defer) } } private func handlePrimaryButton( for application: ApplicationToken, completionHandler: @escaping (ShieldActionResponse) -> Void ) { // (I update some app-group state here, lives, history, etc.) // This is the important part: I try to unshield the app let store = ManagedSettingsStore() var apps = store.shield.applications ?? Set<ApplicationToken>() apps.remove(application) store.shield.applications = apps // I then tell the system to re-evaluate completionHandler(.defer) } } (When testing another approach, I also tried completionHandler(.close) after removing the app from the shield applications.) Behavior I see: Local / Xcode debug build (installed by cable): Open Instagram → Slofy shield appears. Tap “Access App” → the above code runs. Shield disappears immediately and Instagram is usable. ✅ TestFlight build: Open Instagram → Slofy shield appears. Tap “Access App” → the above code runs, and I see in logs: Removed app from shield set (apps now: 0) But the shield does not hide. It stays on the screen. ❌ Only if I then open my main app (Slofy) and close it again, and then return to Instagram, the shield disappears and Instagram is unlocked. So the same code works as expected in local debug builds, but in TestFlight builds the Screen Time shield does not refresh / disappear immediately after I remove the app from store.shield.applications inside the ShieldActionExtension. My questions: Is it supported to unshield an app directly from inside a ShieldActionExtension (by removing it from ManagedSettingsStore().shield.applications) and expect the shield to disappear immediately? Is there any difference in how ManagedSettingsStore changes are applied between debug and TestFlight / release builds for Screen Time shields? Is the main app required to be in the foreground for the shield to update, or is there a recommended pattern to make the shield hide right after the user taps the primary button in the shield? I would like the behavior to be: User opens restricted app → shield shows → taps “Access App” → shield hides immediately and the app becomes usable, without needing to open the main app. Any guidance on the correct way to implement this with Screen Time extensions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

This is the rely they sent me: Issue Description The app exhibited one or more bugs that would negatively impact users. Bug description: at time of review the app’s interface went blank at launch. Review device details: Device type: iPad Air (5th generation) OS version: iPadOS 18.4.1 Anyone has any idea on how can I replicate the error and maybe check the logs? Im completely blind on this one.

Thanks! Jose Luiz Horta Barbosa Maurity Cruz - Apple lover...

Thank you.
