Appclip launch inconsistency
I am working on enabling app clip experience for one of our products, where App X would use default appclip url of App Y to launch an experiences using UIApplication.shared.open(defaultAppclipUrl). Im successfully able to build and submit to appstore by testing via local expereince, but later noticed a strange behaviour in production without local expereince setup, where tapping a button in App X (with default appclip url) fails to launch the appclip for the first time but loads fine from the second try. I learned that in background Apple would make a API call to fetch details about app clip availability in store and then proceed to launch app clip locally, hence the delay->timeout->failure for first tap. Once the invocation starts working it would be consistent. After couple of minutes of break say 20m, it again fails for 1st time. I'm assuming that iOS is invalidating the cache on device regarding availability of appclip in store and hence the API call is made again and there is a delay and failure. can you please help us with this issue.

How is Security Delay still so broken?
I'm sitting at my house and trying to sign my test device out of my apple ID so I can sign into a Sandbox user, but now I have an hour to kill because of this terribly broken "security" feature that thinks it's in an unfamiliar location, despite being at the only location it's ever known. Looks like I'll just be disabling this feature all together. Especially as a device with Developer Mode enabled, which gets reset regularly, there should be additional options here. Come on!

Default dialer abilities & limitations
I've been trying to understand what kind of UX is available if my app is using the default-dialer capability. I have found https://developer.apple.com/documentation/livecommunicationkit/preparing-your-app-to-be-the-default-dialer-app and I am in the EU. On android I built the UX I want and it's quite neat, so now I'm trying to work. out what I can get on iOS. Because the product is kind of worthless with just android. I have built a simple dialer ux with a numberpad, contact lookup etc. Then when the user presses the Call button does it have to pop up the system prompt "Call number"? Does it have to swap over to the system ui for the actual call? So there's no way to show information about the call, during the call? Or am I using the frameworks incorrectly? I am very new to iOS development. TrueCaller and others show validation, but as I understand it they pre-fetch all the data, I can't do that.

FinanceKit: Apple Cash transfers missing contact information
I’m testing FinanceKit with Apple Cash and noticed that transfers don’t include any counterparty information. Here’s an example transaction I fetched: Transaction( id: 5A96EA49-B7C9-4481-949D-88247210C1D7, accountID: 28D7C0E2-DC2A-4138-B105-BCE5EE00B705, transactionAmount: 30 USD, creditDebitIndicator: .credit, transactionDescription: "Transfer", originalTransactionDescription: "", merchantCategoryCode: nil, merchantName: nil, transactionType: .transfer, status: .booked, transactionDate: 2025-08-19 21:57:54 +0000, postedDate: 2025-08-19 21:57:55 +0000 ) As you can see: transactionDescription is just "Transfer" originalTransactionDescription is empty merchantName is nil No counterparty details are exposed In contrast, the Wallet app clearly shows the other person’s name and avatar for Apple Cash transfers, making it easy to understand who the payment was with. In FinanceKit, there’s no way to distinguish between transfers with different people — every transfer looks identical. Questions Is there a hidden or planned field for Apple Cash counterparty information? Can FinanceKit provide at least minimal metadata (e.g., contact name, initials, or a privacy-preserving identifier)? Is there any workaround today to correlate Apple Cash transfers with contacts? Feature request: Please expose counterparty information for Apple Cash transfers. Even something as simple as a stable identifier or name string would enable developers to build Wallet-quality transaction detail screens. Thanks!

FinanceKit: Apple Savings transactions missing source account information
When fetching Apple Savings transactions via FinanceKit, the data is missing key context about where the deposit originated from. Here’s an example transaction I retrieved: Transaction( id: 77371A0C-7122-42C7-BEBC-85BDF654AD2B, accountID: 68D9FE9D-6DA6-4A27-BB9D-19209CD29A56, transactionAmount: 1.46 USD, creditDebitIndicator: .credit, transactionDescription: "Deposit", originalTransactionDescription: "", merchantCategoryCode: nil, merchantName: nil, transactionType: .deposit, status: .booked, transactionDate: 2025-08-20 13:44:26 +0000, postedDate: 2025-08-20 13:44:26 +0000 ) As shown: transactionDescription is just "Deposit" merchantName is nil No indication of the source account In contrast, the Wallet app clearly shows context for Apple Savings account deposits, such as: "Apple Card" (daily cash) "Bank of America" (external transfer) "Interest Paid" (we do see "Interest" come through correctly) Without this metadata, third-party apps cannot replicate Wallet’s clarity about where a deposit came from. Every deposit simply appears as "Deposit", which is ambiguous. Request: Please expose additional metadata for Apple Savings account transactions, for example: sourceAccountName (e.g. “Apple Card” or “Bank of America”) transactionOriginType (cashback, external bank transfer, interest) institutionIdentifier or similar for external banks This would allow developers to show clear, Wallet-quality transaction details and avoid confusing users. Impact: The lack of source info makes Savings deposits nearly indistinguishable from one another, even though Wallet provides this context. For apps leveraging FinanceKit, this results in a poorer experience compared to Apple’s own Wallet. Thanks!

Live Lookup flow stuck at /issue/token-key-for-user-token endpoint
Hi Apple engineering team, I’m trying to integrate the new Live Caller ID Lookup (PIR) on iOS using your pir-service-example code as well as a custom mock server in Vapor, but the extension never advances past the /issue/token-key-for-user-token step. I’ve tried both: 1. Official Example Cloned https://github.com/apple/pir-service-example Ran PIRService locally Confirmed that GET /.well-known/private-token-issuer-directory → 200 GET /issue/token-key-for-user-token → 200 (DER bytes, correct SPKI) No POST /issue ever fires 2. Mock Server (Vapor) Implemented all five endpoints (/config, /.well-known/private-token-issuer-directory, /issue/token-key-for-user-token, /issue, /queries) Verified with curl and openssl asn1parse that: GET /.well-known/private-token-issuer-directory Content-Type: application/private-token-issuer-directory { "issuer-request-uri":"https://…/issue", "token-keys":[…] } GET /issue/token-key-for-user-token Content-Type: application/octet-stream <DER bytes> Added Cache-Control: public, max-age=3600 on directory and SPKI Stubbed POST /issue to always return { "token": "" } Still no POST /issue request from the extension Reproduction Steps Install and enable a Live Lookup extension pointing to my server. Trigger an incoming call on device. Watch server logs—only see the two GETs, never /issue or /queries. Expected Behavior After fetching the SPKI DER, the framework should issue a POST /issue call (Privacy Pass flow) and then POST /queries. Observed Behavior Stuck in an infinite loop of: GET /.well-known/private-token-issuer-directory GET /issue/token-key-for-user-token (repeat…) No progression to the /issue or /queries endpoints. What I’ve Tried Verified JSON kebab-case and headers exactly match examples Confirmed SPKI DER is valid via openssl asn1parse Added Cache-Control headers Tested on real device, localhost url, and ngrok public URL Mocked a valid-looking token response Could you advise what additional requirement or format detail I’m missing that prevents from advancing past /issue/token-key-for-user-token? These are the main files: LiveLookupExtension.swift routes.swift service-config.json Thanks in advance!

Opening Main App from Screen Time Configuration Action Extension
I'm working on an app for iOS that will help people get tasks done. Within the app, we use a ManagedSettingsStore to let the user setup distracting apps. When the user opens any of those apps while it is being shielded, our ShieldConfiguration target opens and displays a screen that we configure with the description of the task they are supposed to do. On the bottom of the view, there are two buttons, one to start the task, and another to dismiss and return to their home screen. I want to have the button that starts the task open up the main application and deeplink to the focus view with the task that they started. Currently, the only thing that we can tell the system to do is via a ShieldActionResponse which is an enum with 3 cases: none, close, or defer. None of these three allow us to open the main application. I have found no workarounds that allow us to do it either. I've tried creating a custom URL scheme and calling UIApplication.shared.open(url), but there is no shared application available within the action extension. I have tried using a NSExtensionContext to open a url, but that does not work either. I have even tried starting a live activity to show the user what task they are working on and have a live timer, but that does not work either. I know it is technically possible, because an app I downloaded does it perfectly. The app is called "Ascent: Screen Time Control". Is there some sort of extension I am missing, or entitlement I have not requested? Any help would be very appreciated.

Strange behavior of Speakerbox (or CallKit) with headset operation
I've run Speakerbox(https://docs-assets.developer.apple.com/published/8e99045a90e2/MakingAndReceivingVoIPCallsWithCallKit.zip) to check the behavior of CallKit. When there was one active call and one on hold and another call was received, the behavior was defferent depending on whether I operated it from a headset or not. No headset or operated from CallKit screen When "End & Accept" tapped: the active call is hung up, and the received call is answered. When "End Held & Accept" tapped: the held call is hung up, the active call is held, and the received call is answered. Operated from headset Answer opeation cannot be performed for unknown reasons Disconnect operation caused that all calls other than the one on hold are hung up and the held call is unheld. Hold operation caused that the active call is held and the received call is answered. (Strangely, there are two held calls.) And when I toggle calls at this time, one of the two on hold is hung up for unknown reasons. I tried changing the settings of CXProviderConfiguration and CXCallUpdate, and changing the options in the Audio Session category, but it did not improve. I checked CXActions occurring, and it was as follows. (Call A = held call, Call B = active call, Call C = received call) Disconnect (or Answer?) operation (lacking CXEndCallAction for Call A) CXEndCallAction for Call B CXAnswerCallAction for Call C CXEndCallAction for Call C <- weird CXSetHeldCallAction for Call A onHold=false Hold operation (lacking lacking CXEndCallAction for Call A) CXSetHeldCallAction for Call B CXAnswerCallAction for Call C Toggle calls CXSetHeldCallAction for Call C onHold=true CXSetHeldCallAction for Call A onHold=false CXSetHeldCallAction for Call B onHold=false <- weird CXEndCallAction for Call B

Associated domain not recognised
I have a public and accessible .well-known/apple-app-site-association file for both my domain.com and subdomain.domain.com with "paths": ["*"] . Both example.com and blog.example.com are added in Associated domains and any link that contains domain.com and domain.com/path normally deep links into my app. I used to have an *.example.com that successfully deep linked all my subdomains into my app but now I had to remove it as some subdomains will need to link to other apps, but some should still link to the same app. I removed * but left blog.example.com as that specific subdomain still needs to deep link into my app. But now blog.example.com is not even being recognized by my app and any link starting with blog.example.com just opens in safari. What am I missing? Why is this happening ?

Presenter Overlay Not Showing When Recording a Single Window or Region with ScreenCaptureKit
Hi, I'm using ScreenCaptureKit on macOS 14+ to record a single window. I've noticed that the Presenter Overlay only appears when capturing the entire screen, but it does not appear when recording a specific window or a region. Is there a way to enable the Presenter Overlay while recording a single window or a defined region, similar to how it works with full-screen capture? Any guidance or clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Live Caller ID Lookup Implementation
Hello I'm working on Live Caller ID Lookup implementation on my own pet-project, as I understood I need to create app and extension for this app. I also created test PIR-service. I did configure serviceURL, tokenIssuerURL and userTierToken. In My app I implemented following code Task { if LiveCallerIDLookupManager.shared.status(forExtensionWithIdentifier: "some-extension") == .disabled { `//` Show an alert. print("LiveCallerIDLookupManager is disabled") } do { // Open Settings. try await LiveCallerIDLookupManager.shared.openSettings() } catch { } It does open Call settings, but I don't understand what should I do next.

Universal link doesn't work after install right away
Hi! We are having a hard time with the universal link, help is appreciated! Thanks in advance! The universal link doesn't work after installation for some time. A user has to wait for from 5 to a couple of hours after the app is installed on the device. This has also affected App reviewers since we need the universal link to work for successful login. Each submission will receive a rejection of we cannot login and it will be approved until we kindly ask them to try again. I believe the JSON is delivered to devices by Apple's CDN system and the fact that it works on most devices most of the time should imply that we have a valid apple-app-site-association setup. So I am really confused about the wait time, which is giving us trouble with app review and a bad user experience

Calling [NSUserDefaults objectForKey:] crashes as it attempts to insert nil object into dictionary
Hi, I work at OneSignal, a third-party SDK, and have the following two crash reports submitted by a client for the same issue. Because the crash originates from our SDK, even if the root cause may be elsewhere, the onus is on our team to try to resolve this crash. Additionally, my information is limited as this is not our own crash report. I'm trying to figure out why this crash happens and how we can address it within our SDK. Crash Reported: Fatal Exception: NSInvalidArgumentException [NSMutableDictionary __addObject:forKey:]: object cannot be nil Context: Our SDK makes a call to [NSUserDefaults(NSUserDefaults) objectForKey:] on the standardUserDefaults and passes in a non-null key. It appears further up the call stack, a null value is being added to a dictionary. I assume this is the innards of how the search list is generated. Additional Information: The client states that it seems to happen only once per user and the scale is not extremely high but it is increasing. They are unsure what happened and when. They don't have much information about the devices except it has happened on iOS 18. FamilyActivityPicker crashing when expanding "Other" category
Hi there, I'm presenting a FamilyActivityPicker inside of a sheet, and on some phones, the FamilyActivityPicker freezes and crashes when the user expands the "Other" category only. "Other" is the only category that exhibits this behavior, and it only does this on some phones, not in all cases. This issue is perfectly reproducible on those phones when using the FamilyActivityPicker for the "other" category only, but on those same phones it does not reproducible in the Native ScreenTime Picker in Settings → ScreenTime → App Limits → Add Limit. I don't have access to these phones as they are user reports, but any guidance here would be deeply appreciated. More broadly, there are several issues with the FamilyActivityPicker (categories expand on top of each other when multiple are opened, varying behavior with tapping rows vs tapping select bubbles depending on phone size, etc) that the Native ScreenTime Picker doesn't have. Grouping websites as a standalone category is preferable as well. Could we as developers just have access to that one?

How to display a full-screen light based (sunrise) alarm notification at specific time (like Clock app)? Can Critical Alerts help with visuals too?
I'm building a light-based(sunrise) alarm iOS app using SwiftUI , the idea is to wake users not with sound, but with a full-screen bright light UI (mimicking sunrise or a light alarm clock). I'd like to replicate behavior similar to the native Clock app: My goal: When the scheduled time is reached, forcefully display a full-screen "light" screen, even if the device is: locked running another app or the app is backgrounded The problem: So far, I can: Show a full-screen AlarmView only if the app is opening But I cannot: Automatically wake the screen when app is closed My confusion: I've read that Critical Alerts allow bypassing Do Not Disturb and Silent Mode but that's only for sound right? Can Critical Alerts also help with waking the screen or displaying visuals like full-screen UI automatically? If not, is there any way to simulate this kind of alarm: light-based screen effect ( sunrise alarm clock) triggered automatically at a specific time without needing the user to manually tap the notification? Do I need to consider: PushKit + VoIP? CallKit (but it's meant for calls)? Background tasks + silent push? Or is it simply impossible without special entitlements? Thanks in advance for any insights. This seems like a simple use case (light-based alarm), but I’m surprised how limited the options is.

DeviceActivityReport disappears when app comes back from background
Hello, I am trying to display basic screen time data on my main screen. On the initial load of the screen, the DeviceActivityReport renders correctly and visible, but after being in the background and coming back to the app, the whole view is just blank. I don't think I'm doing anything special. Is this a known bug? @main struct MyActivityReportExtension: DeviceActivityReportExtension { var body: some DeviceActivityReportScene { // Create a report for each DeviceActivityReport.Context that your app supports. TotalActivityReport { totalActivity in TotalActivityView(totalActivity: totalActivity) } // Add more reports here... } } extension DeviceActivityReport.Context { // If your app initializes a DeviceActivityReport with this context, then the system will use // your extension's corresponding DeviceActivityReportScene to render the contents of the // report. static let totalActivity = Self("Total Activity") } struct TotalActivityReport: DeviceActivityReportScene { // Define which context your scene will represent. let context: DeviceActivityReport.Context = .totalActivity // Define the custom configuration and the resulting view for this report. let content: (String) -> TotalActivityView func makeConfiguration(representing data: DeviceActivityResults<DeviceActivityData>) async -> String { // Reformat the data into a configuration that can be used to create // the report's view. let formatter = DateComponentsFormatter() formatter.allowedUnits = [.day, .hour, .minute] formatter.unitsStyle = .abbreviated formatter.zeroFormattingBehavior = .dropAll let totalActivityDuration = await data.flatMap { $0.activitySegments }.reduce(0, { $0 + $1.totalActivityDuration }) return formatter.string(from: totalActivityDuration) ?? identitylookup needed for ILMessageFilterQueryHandling?
My iOS app uses a Message Filter extension (via ILMessageFilterQueryHandling) and works only when run directly as the extension target. When installed normally (via TestFlight), the filter does not trigger at all — which I now believe is because iOS enforces the com.apple.developer.identitylookup entitlement at runtime. Anyone know anything about this? I put in a request for the entitlement last week but heard nothing back. Called Apple "technical" support and they had no idea what I was talking about. The documentation around this is EXTREMELY lacking in my opinion...

Come on!

CallKit: Can an app auto-open after answering a VoIP call on lock screen?
Hi everyone, on iOS, when a VoIP call arrives and the user accepts it from the lock screen (after unlocking with Face ID/Touch ID), is there any way to automatically bring my app to the foreground and show the in-app call screen, instead of staying in the system CallKit UI?

Is it possible to share total Screen Time automatically between friends for comparison?
Hello everyone, I would like to know if there is any way for an iOS app to automatically access a user’s total Screen Time (for example, daily or weekly usage) and then share this with friends so they can compare results, like in a “Screen Time battle”? Thanks you very much for you help!

Hello, I am trying to display basic screen time data on my main screen. On the initial load of the screen, the DeviceActivityReport renders correctly and visible, but after being in the background and coming back to the app, the whole view is just blank. I don't think I'm doing anything special. Is this a known bug? @main struct MyActivityReportExtension: DeviceActivityReportExtension { var body: some DeviceActivityReportScene { // Create a report for each DeviceActivityReport.Context that your app supports. TotalActivityReport { totalActivity in TotalActivityView(totalActivity: totalActivity) } // Add more reports here... } } extension DeviceActivityReport.Context { // If your app initializes a DeviceActivityReport with this context, then the system will use // your extension's corresponding DeviceActivityReportScene to render the contents of the // report. static let totalActivity = Self("Total Activity") } struct TotalActivityReport: DeviceActivityReportScene { // Define which context your scene will represent. let context: DeviceActivityReport.Context = .totalActivity // Define the custom configuration and the resulting view for this report. let content: (String) -> TotalActivityView func makeConfiguration(representing data: DeviceActivityResults<DeviceActivityData>) async -> String { // Reformat the data into a configuration that can be used to create // the report's view. let formatter = DateComponentsFormatter() formatter.allowedUnits = [.day, .hour, .minute] formatter.unitsStyle = .abbreviated formatter.zeroFormattingBehavior = .dropAll let totalActivityDuration = await data.flatMap { $0.activitySegments }.reduce(0, { $0 + $1.totalActivityDuration }) return formatter.string(from: totalActivityDuration) ?? "No activity data" } } struct TotalActivityView: View { let totalActivity: String var body: some View { VStack(alignment: .center, spacing: 4) { Text("Screen Time") .font(.system(size: 14, weight: .regular)) .foregroundColor(.secondary) .frame(maxWidth: .infinity, // stretch to the full cell width alignment: .center) Text(totalActivity) .font(.system(size: 18, weight: .medium)) .foregroundColor(.primary) } } } And I am using it in my main view: private var analyticsSection: some View { HStack(spacing: 24) { // Some View DeviceActivityReport(DeviceActivityReport.Context(rawValue: "Total Activity"), filter: DeviceActivityFilter( segment: .weekly( during: Calendar.current.dateInterval( of: .weekOfYear, for: .now )! ), users: .all, devices: .init([.iPhone, .iPad]), )) .frame(maxWidth: .infinity) // another view } .frame(maxWidth: .infinity, maxHeight: showAnalytics ? 58 : 0) .padding(.horizontal, showAnalytics ? 24 : 0) .opacity(showAnalytics ? 1.0 : 0.0) .clipped() }

identitylookup needed for ILMessageFilterQueryHandling?
My iOS app uses a Message Filter extension (via ILMessageFilterQueryHandling) and works only when run directly as the extension target. When installed normally (via TestFlight), the filter does not trigger at all — which I now believe is because iOS enforces the com.apple.developer.identitylookup entitlement at runtime. Anyone know anything about this? I put in a request for the entitlement last week but heard nothing back. Called Apple "technical" support and they had no idea what I was talking about. The documentation around this is EXTREMELY lacking in my opinion...
