Inquiry Regarding Vertical Writing Mode Caret Issues in Safari on iOS
Dear Apple Developer Support, We are currently developing a system that requires the ability to edit Japanese vertical text within the Safari browser on iPhone. During our investigation, we encountered an issue that matches the following WebKit bug: 283620 – Caret Positioning Issues in Vertical Writing Mode We understand that this issue is being addressed in the following pull request: https://github.com/WebKit/WebKit/pull/39939 However, it appears that a complete fix has not yet been implemented. Given this situation, we would like to confirm the following: Is there any known workaround for this issue in iOS 17.5 or iOS 18.5 (the latest versions as of now)? If a workaround exists, could you please provide details? If not, could you share the expected timeline for a full resolution of this issue? Although this appears to be an open-source WebKit issue, we are reaching out to Apple because WebKit is tightly integrated with iOS and Safari, and ultimately delivered as part of the iPhone experience. Videos keep refetched with loop
Hello there, For a video like this <video src="blob:safari-web-extension://***" autoplay="" loop="" style="position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 100%; height: 100%; object-fit: cover; z-index: -1;"></video>, no matter if its local or remote, blob or mp4 files, is constantly being reloaded (refetched? revalidated?) if the loop tag is added. I can confirm there is actual constant traffic from the server based on my server logs. I am running iOS/macOS 26.

Public API to Open Safari Settings in iOS Browser
Dear Apple Developer Support, I’m developing a Chromium-based iOS browser and want to open the Safari settings page (Settings → Apps→ Safari) like Chrome’s “Import data from Safari” feature, where clicking “Go to settings” opens the Safari settings page. To reproduce this behavior in Chrome: 1.In Chrome, search “Import password from Safari.” 2.Restart Chrome. 3.Go to Chrome → Settings → Safari import → Import to Chrome → Go to settings. 4.You will see it opens Settings → Apps → Safari. Please see the attached file for steps to trigger this feature in Chrome. My attempt with App-Prefs:root=SAFARI only opens the Settings main page ,Is there a public API to open the Safari settings page directly? Look forward to your reply,many thanks

Issues Observed with App Clip Behavior and URL Handling
Hi Apple Team, We’ve noticed a couple of issues with launching default App Clip in safari and would appreciate your guidance. App Clip Popup Timing: When launching the App Clip using default URL, we sometimes see the small App Clip popup appear before the App Clip banner is displayed. Ideally, the banner should appear first. Cached URL Handling: In certain cases, the App Clip appears to be using a cached URL instead of the most recent one. For example, when we invoke two different App Clip URLs with unique parameters, the App Clip sometimes launches using the previous URL’s data instead of the new one. This behavior is inconsistent and makes it difficult to ensure users are directed to the correct experience each time. Could you please help us understand whether this is expected behavior or if there are any known issues or recommended solutions? Thank you for your time and support. Example

mediaDevices.getUserMedia ignores channelCount with echoCancellation off.
I understand that you want echoCancellation and noiseSuppression in most cases, but I would like to be able to turn off all the filter processes for this particular use case. When I set echoCancellation: false in navigator.mediaDevices.getUserMedia, Safari 26 on MacOS produces stereo recording even if I set channelCount: 1. When I set echoCancellation: true, it produces mono recording as expected. How can I get mono recording with echoCancellation: false and channelCount: 1? Thanks!

PointerEvents on Safari on iPad with Apple Pencil Pro
Hi, I would like to share a finding and ask for a solution, if possible. This may be a potential bug with PointerMoveEvent on Safari on an iPad with Pencil Pro. I tested onPointerMove and onTouchMove in a <canvas> element in a React web app for freehand drawing using Mouse on a PC. Finger touch on iPad Apple pencil pro on iPad Finger touch on iPhone I was able to draw smooth curves in all cases except when using onPointerMove with Apple pencil pro on iPad. The curve drawn in this case looked like it was created using several straight-line segments. It seems like the sampling rate for PointerMoveEvent is lower than that of TouchMoveEvent on Safari I am not sure how to solve this problem or if it is an issue with Safari's interpretation of PointerEvents. Need to fix audio auto-play for iPhone mobile users (specifically on safari and chrome)
Hi! My team and I are developing an education platform. One of our features is a auto-play flashcard feature where users can listen to their flashcards hands free. We are having an issue where the autoplay wont work for users with iPhone's. I think the rule is that user's are supposed to give consent to the auto-play. We do make the user hit play before it starts so that should be the "constent" but it's still not working. Anyone have ideas?

Smart App Banner has changed background color
We have a Smart App Banner (including App Clip) on our website and have noticed today that the banner's background color has changed. It no longer has the default white background and blue button color, instead it has a background color that matches our page's background, and even the color of the button has changed. What's interesting is that we have not triggered this change at all. The colors seemingly changed by themselves. Looking at the Apple Documentation, no customization options are mentioned. Searching the web, the theme-color meta tag is mentioned in relation to this, however we haven't even included that tag on our page. What is triggering this color change then and how can we influence it?

First installation of the extension - sending messages to the background script from the event handler in the content script does not work
After the first installation (out of AppStore) of the extension in the browser, the content script is correctly inserted into the page (twice for some reason) and a message is sent from the root of the content script to the background script, which responds correctly. However, if an event handler is registered within the content script, within which the message is also sent to the background script, it will never reach the background script. window.addEventListener("message", function (event) { // We only accept messages from ourselves if (event.source !== window) { return; } if (event.data.source && event.data.source === appIdentification) { browser.runtime.sendMessage(event.data); } }, false); It does not matter with what delay the event handler is called (i.e. the background script is not asleep). If I refresh the page or close and reopen the browser and reload the page, everything works correctly and the message sent from the event handler is already delivered to the background script. The event handler is used so that the extension code is uniform for all browsers (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Opera, Firefox), i.e. it is not intended to use externally_connectable for sending messages from the webpage directly to the background script, which Safari should support. The expected behavior is that the extension will work even after the first installation, as is the case with other browsers. fetch() in safari extension does not include credentials (cookie) when using from non-default profile
It seems fetch() does not include credentials (cookie) even when credentials: include is used and Safari extension has host_permissions for that domain when using from a non-default Safari profile. It includes credentials (cookie) when using from the default profile (which has the default name Personal). Is there anyone who has this problem? I try to request in popup.js like this: const response = await fetch( url, { method: 'GET', mode: 'cors', credentials: 'include', referrerPolicy: 'no-referrer', } ); and it does not include the credentials (cookie) from host_permissions. I already posted https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/764279, and opened feedback assistant (FB15307169). But it is still not fixed yet. (macOS 15.4 beta 3) I hope this is fixed soon.

iOS Safari - Input element is unresponsive when modifying DOM via a touch event (touchstart, touchmove, touchend, etc)
This is a really strange issue on iOS Safari. Under certain conditions a basic input element will not be focusable or show the on screen keyboard. I can reproduce the issue with a very simple HTML file by dynamically adding an anchor element with an href during a touch event. If you add a different element or an anchor without an href, there is no issue. Similarly, if you apply the same listener to a click event there is no issue. Safari 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2 Download Issue in AngularJS Application
We are encountering a download issue in Safari 18.2 on macOS Sequoia 15.2 where file downloads initiated by our AngularJS application (such as Excel exports) are silently blocked. There are no errors in the browser console, and the download does not occur. Interestingly, after testing on Safari 18.3 with Sequoia 15.3, the downloads worked as expected. However, the problem reappeared on Safari 18.4 with Sequoia 15.4. We suspect that recent changes in Safari’s security or download handling may be preventing downloads triggered via asynchronous JavaScript (e.g., AJAX calls) that are not initiated directly by user interaction. We would appreciate any insights, suggestions, or possible workarounds from the community. Looking forward to your guidance on this matter.

iOS26 Safari private mode blocking our page code from reading inputs
With most recent Safari update, our page started having some of it's core functionality broken while users access it on Private mode due to Fingerprinting protection. The issue is that the code that breaks is our first-party code and I want understand why it is breaking and how to properly fix it. One thing we discovered was that a service of ours that uses the same code base doesn't have these issues and current assumption is that their page bundles are served on the same domain as the actual page request, while ours is coming from a different one. The other assumption was that the domain which we use for serving the bundles of the page are set on the domain that is flagged as tracking domain. Is there some documentation on how Safari decides which code is allowed reading user inputs and which isn't and what is the appropriate approach to fix this issue as it would be possible that these changes get release as default in the future?

iOS Mobile Video Audio Playback Issues in React
I'm experiencing issues with audio playback in my React video player component specifically on iOS mobile devices (iPhone/iPad). Even after implementing several recommended solutions, including Apple's own guidelines, the audio still isn't working properly on iOS Safari. It works completely fine on Android. On iOS, I ensured the video doesn't autoplay (it requires user interaction). Is Apple aiming to improve PWA support in iOS?
iOS 26 introduced a significant step back for PWAs - you now need at least five taps to add a PWA to your home screen. Android has excellent PWA support - it takes 1 tap to install an app, and the platform support is great, and web apps feel amazing. The gap between the platforms has now increased even further. My team and I were hoping for better PWA support, but now we are very worried about the direction - it puts us in a difficult situation. I'm sure many developers face a similar challenge. What's the current status of PWAs in iOS? Is Apple aiming to improve its support in the near future? Is there a roadmap, tech previews, or betas addressing the issue?

Analysis of issues on Safari with liquid glass
Hello, As previous reports have already shown, there seems to be a few issues on the latest version of Safari, mainly around: Modals taking up the full viewport Elements positioned at the bottom of the screen This also seems to affect the modals on apple.com/iphone. I've recently done an analysis of what can and can't be done in code to work with the new liquid glass UI and thought I'd share my findings here. The full write up, along with screenshots and the demos I used are available in this repository: https://github.com/stevenocchipinti/liquid-glass-spike A brief summary of the findings: The conditions for a fullscreen modal overlay element to cover the entire screen with a position: fixed; seems to be: The background must be semi-transparent Solid colours, linear-gradients, etc. don't work The container must be empty This also means the standard and ::backdrop don't seem to work. The conditions for a bottom sheet to cover the entire screen, including the area around the Safari toolbar seems to be: The element must be positioned within 3px from the bottom of the viewport The height must be within a certain threshold If I've missed anything, please let me know. It would be really nice to have some official documentation on these issues to explain to developers how to do this properly.
