Safari extension without native code
I have a simple Safari extension which contains only Javascript and no native code. Currently I have the placeholder SafariWebExtensionHandler.swift that Xcode created when I added the extension. It's not doing anything useful, but simply deleting it doesn't seem to work. Can I have an extension that includes no native code?

Getting started with PHP ..
I am new to PHP. I have developed my own web site with a lot of javascript in simple HTML files. I want to do some extensions with PHP but I can't make a simple web page function. I am sure something simple is wrong. Help! Here is the test web page I made: hello.html <html>  <head>   <title>Hello World</title>  </head>  <body>   <?php echo 'Hello World!'; ?>  </body> </html> Pointing Safari at hello.html gives me a new tab with the correct title, but no "Hello World" in the page itself. Here is the output of php --version: WARNING: PHP is not recommended PHP is included in macOS for compatibility with legacy software. Future versions of macOS will not include PHP. Safari Web Extension: How do I avoid "this extension can read and alter web pages"?
I have a web extension that I want to send data to, and receive a response containing modified data. My understanding is that the native app is only contactable by a background script. How does a webpage contact the background script? One answer is by adding a content script, which is able to communicate with the background script using browser.native.sendMessage(). Unfortunately this triggers a warning that "this extension can read and alter web pages". I do not want to read and alter web pages, nor do I want users to be concerned about a permission the app doesn't need. I just want to receive data, and then return a response. What API should I be using to achieve this?

Content blocker not removing content
I have a content blocker that generally works correctly, but I need to block an element that has certain text in it. For example, <span id="theId">Some text</span> is easy enough to block because I can locate the id and block that, but what if there is no id, or the id is completely random? What if it's just <span>Some text</span>? How do I block that? Let's say this is my only content blocker rule: [ { "action": { "type": "css-display-none", "selector": ":has-text(/Some text/i)" }, "trigger": { "url-filter": ".*" } } ] No errors are seen when the rule is loaded, so it's syntactically correct, it just doesn't block the HTML. I gather this is because :has-text() works on attributes, not contents, so it works on alt, href, aria-label etc. but not on the contents of the element itself. How do I block Some text in my example above? Thanks!

WKNavigationDelegate methods not getting called even though
Hi everyone, We work on a macOS plugin which then gets loaded into another application. I'm trying to load a webpage in that application through our plugin using a WKWebView & I set my class as the navigationDelegate for the same. I do not receive any callbacks for the WKNavigationDelegate methods. I have debugged & made sure that the navigationDelegate is actually set to my class. Here is a sample code of what I'm doing : [[NSApplication sharedApplication] runModalForWindow:self.mWindowController.window]; - (void)windowDidLoad { [super windowDidLoad]; [self.window makeKeyAndOrderFront:self]; [self.window orderFrontRegardless]; if (self.mLoadingView == nil) { self.mLoadingView = [[LoadingView alloc] initWithFrame:[[self.window contentView] frame]]; } [[self.window contentView] addSubview:self.mLoadingView]; [self.mLoadingView showLoadingView]; [self.window setLevel:NSMainMenuWindowLevel]; [self loadWebPage]; } -(void)loadWebPage { [self.mWKWebView setUIDelegate:self]; [self.mWKWebView setNavigationDelegate:self]; [self.mWKWebView stopLoading]; NSURL *lURL = [self samplePageURL]; WKNavigation *lNavigation = [self.mWKWebView loadRequest:[NSURLRequest requestWithURL:lURL]]; } - (void)webView:(WKWebView *)pWKWebView didFinishNavigation:(WKNavigation *)pNavigation { [self removeLoadingview]; [self.mWKWebView evaluateJavaScript:@"document.body.setAttribute('oncontextmenu', 'event.preventDefault();');" completionHandler:nil]; } I do not get any calls in the webView:didFinishNavigation: & I also tried other methods like webView:didStartProvisionalNavigation, webView:didFailProvisionalNavigation:withError: etc but did not receive any call in those either. Instead of runModalForWindow: if I use showWindow: on the mWindowController the webpage somehow loads but I still don't get any callbacks & so the loadingview subview is also present. The WKWebView is placed in a storyboard, and I have an IBOutlet connected to it in my class. Has anyone faced a similar issue or can point me to something I might be missing? All help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

WebKit HTML Anchor download attribute ignored by PDF files
When trying to create an anchor with the download attribute it does not work for PDF files, it displays the files inline. Also when the download attribute is set the target attribute is ignored too. The tag: ... The behavior: It displaies the file in line. The correct behavior: The file should be downloaded and not displayed or at least displayed but with the "_blank" target (new tab). This is an issue when working with WebSockets which is closed when the file is opened inline.

Suspected safari memory leak for new os ver 26
Hi, this is my first post in the community, so please correct me if i am posting this somewhat in a wrong manner. Im using my Apple M1 Pro(14inch, 2021) and installed the os 26 yesterday. Today, I was using Safari, and all of sudden it gets frozen, then the following window popped up. Is this something expected? i.e. my usage is somewhat unusual or is there any report around potential memory leak in Safari? appreciate any suggestions, as Safari is my main browser and currently on hold due to this issue. Thanks

Cannot Play mp3 File via AudioContext in iOS 18 Safari
I have a Safari extension that plays audio via the javascript AudioContext API. It was working fine under iOS 17 and is now broken under iOS 18. It does not play audio at all. I've tried in both the iOS 18 public beta and the iOS 18.1 developer beta. It is broken in both of them. I've also created Feedback item FB15170620 which has a url attached to a page I created which demonstrates the issue.

No longe rable to obtain network name
We have a JavaScript api that queries our Secure Browser to get the network information – signal strength, network name, plugged in/wifi. Everything worked fine through the Tahoe betas, still does. Now we are getting on the network name and this is breaking our UI. Was this an intentional change or a bug? The other two properties still appear to be working. And it works in all lower MacOS versions. We are currently obtaining it through AppleScript try   set ssid to do shell script "system_profiler SPAirPortDataType | awk '/Current Network Information:/ {getline; sub(/^ +/, ""); sub(/:$/, ""); print}'"   if ssid is equal to "" then     return "Not connected to any Wi-Fi network."   else     return ssid   end if on error errMsg   return "Error: " & errMsg end try

Not able to view PDF on a website when I open it in Safari browser.
When you open the Directorate General of civil Aviation, India website then in the top bar bring the cursor to “Regulations and Guidance” under that there will be a drop down which will give numerous options. In that go to Centre Column “Civil Aviation Requirements”. Then click on ”Section 7” then click on “Part II”. Actually on a laptop it’s a 4 page document but on my iPad it’s just an image of the first page. I can’t read any of the PDF’s.

WKWebView/Sandbox Intermittent Local File Access Denial in macOS Sandbox Environment
Dear Apple Developer Experts, We're experiencing an intermittent issue with WKWebView in our macOS application where local HTML file access is occasionally denied by the sandbox, despite proper implementation and permissions. We seek your guidance in understanding and resolving this issue. Issue Description: The WKWebView occasionally fails to load local HTML files stored in the app's Contents/Resources directory Error occurs in WebKit Networking Process with sandbox denial Issue is intermittent and can be resolved by app restart or WebKit Networking Process restart Affects all local HTML files in the same directory once the issue occurs Technical Details: Error from Kernel Log: 2025-02-07 14:57:17.179821 +0800 kernel Sandbox: com.apple.WebKit.Networking(58661) deny(1) file-read-data /Applications/DingTalk.app/Contents/Resources/webcontent/contact-2024.html WKWebView Delegate Error (captured in WKNavigationDelegate method): (void)webView:(WKWebView *)webView didFailProvisionalNavigation:(WKNavigation *)navigation withError:(NSError *)error Error Details: Domain: NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code: 1 Description: "Operation not permitted" UserInfo: { networkTaskMetricsPrivacyStance: Unknown, _NSURLErrorFailingURLSessionTaskErrorKey: LocalDataTask &lt;3694CA1E-481B-4E06-975D-E3A56AD56C0F&gt;.&lt;1&gt;, _kCFStreamErrorDomainKey: 1, _kCFStreamErrorCodeKey: 1 } Key Observations: Error is captured in WKNavigationDelegate's didFailProvisionalNavigation method The issue affects all local HTML files in the same directory once it occurs Temporary workarounds we've discovered: Restarting the application completely resolves the issue Without restarting the application, terminating the "WebKit Networking Process" via Activity Monitor causes the process to automatically restart, and this resolves the issue and load works again Additional Information: We've collected complete system diagnostics (system_logs.logarchive) at the time of failure The issue appears similar to discussions in Apple Developer Forums (https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/110072), though we're uncertain if it's the same root cause We've prepared a minimal demo project demonstrating: Our release version app can be downloaded from: https://dtapp-pub.dingtalk.com/dingtalk-desktop/mac_dmg/Release/M1-Beta/DingTalk_v7.6.45_43521682_universal.dmg?spm=0.0.0.0.UuwovG&amp;file=DingTalk_v7.6.45_43521682_universal.dmg for examining our app's codesign, sandbox, and entitlements configurations if needed Important Investigation Finding: We attempted to simulate the issue by using chmod 000 /path/to/test.html, but this produces a different error: CopyError Domain=NSURLErrorDomain Code=-1102 Description="You do not have permission to access the requested resource." UserInfo={ NSLocalizedDescription=You do not have permission to access the requested resource., NSErrorFailingURLStringKey=file:///Users/sunus/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/WKWebViewLocalDemo-eumardnlfbmwgnhkaadglsrrhzhs/Build/Products/Debug/WKWebViewLocalDemo.app/Contents/Resources/test.html, NSUnderlyingError=0x600003aedc50 {Error Domain=kCFErrorDomainCFNetwork Code=-1102 "(null)"} } This error is distinctly different from our original issue's "Operation not permitted" error, suggesting that the sandbox denial we're experiencing is not a simple file permission issue. Questions: Is this a known issue with the WebKit sandbox in recent macOS versions? Are there recommended best practices or workarounds to prevent this sandbox denial? Could this be related to the WebKit Networking Process's sandbox configuration? Are there additional diagnostics or logs we should collect to help investigate this issue? We appreciate your assistance in investigating this issue. Please let us know if you need any additional information or clarification. STEPS TO REPRODUCE Open App Then loads the local file in /WKWebViewLocalDemo.app/Contents/Resources/test.html PS, We also submit a DTS &amp; Feedback DTS:Case-ID: 11876957 Feedback-ID: FB16493282 sysdiagnose is in the Feedback-ID: FB16493282 is uploaded

How to get tab/url's favicon in safari web extension natively?
I'm converting a Chrome Extension to a Safari Web Extension, I found it's not easy to get favicon of current tab/url natively. The tab object in Safari doesn't have favIconUrl. { &#9;"id": 121, &#9;"index": 6, &#9;"active": true, &#9;"width": 1324, &#9;"audible": false, &#9;"url": "https://github.com/", &#9;"mutedInfo": { &#9;&#9;"muted": false &#9;}, &#9;"windowId": 2, &#9;"title": "GitHub", &#9;"incognito": false, &#9;"pinned": false, &#9;"height": 935, &#9;"highlighted": true, &#9;"status": "complete" } &#9;&#9; 2. I didn't find Safari has similar thing like chrome://favicon 3. I found Safari's favicon caches in ~/Library/Safari/Favicon Cache/favicons but have no idea how to use them in Safari Web Extension.

iOS Safari 26 select dismiss issue
We are seeing an issue in Safari on iOS 26 where the a automatic unfocus of on select box dismisses the second one. <select name="choice1" onblur="console.log('onblur1');" onfocus="console.log('onfocus1');"> <option value="first">First Value</option> <option value="second" selected>Second Value</option> <option value="third">Third Value</option> </select> <select name="choice2" onblur="console.log('onblur2');" onfocus="console.log('onfocus2')"> <option value="first">First Value</option> <option value="second" selected>Second Value</option> <option value="third">Third Value</option> </select> select something in choice1. quickly tap choice2 before onblur1 is logged. At the timing of onblur1 the selection menu for choice2 is dismissed. Anyone know how to fix this behavior?

Chrome extension => Safari web extension packager
"The Safari web extension packager enables you to package and distribute your Safari extensions using App Store Connect from any web browser, without requiring a Mac or access to Xcode." I upload the unzipped folder I'd test in Chrome://extensions to the Safari web extension packager in App store connect. I get error: Embedded binary's bundle identifier is not prefixed with the parent app's bundle identifier. The only solution i've seen to this error involves xcode/a mac, being without which doesn't help
