Suggestions for OAuth2 in Swift
Hello! I have a few questions about integrating an OAuth2 API into my Swift application. I am using this API to access user data from the website (users will authenticate themselves within the app). I have seen other apps use this API in the way that I am describing it so I know that it is possible. However, I am not sure how to implement it. Are there any recommended ways to use an OAuth2 API in my application? The API that I am using does not specifically say that it supports PKCE. However, I have heard from some sources that it does. If it does not support PKCE, how do I still create a secure app infrastructure that will pass App Store Review? At a more basic level, what is the difference between OAuth2 and PKCE? What should I use in my app? Are there any resources to learn a little bit more about these protocols so that I understand them better? Thanks!

HTMLAudioElement on iOS is paused when video plays again
On iOS (iPhone or iPad) the following behaviour happens: when both an HTML video element and an HTML audio element are playing on a page, and the video source ends, and the video source is programmatically forced to play again then the system will automatically pause the audio. See following stackblitz project for a sample: https://stackblitz.com/edit/ios-audio-paused-on-video-playing?file=README.md Steps to reproduce Feel free to try with both another audio and video source, here limited by the available space in Stackblitz plan. On an iPhone/iPad device or simulator, in Safari: browse to index.html when on iPhone, press iPhone Load to force preloading video. Not needed on iPad press Play to start playing both audio and video wait until clip ends and then restarts from 0:00 Expected Audio should keep on playing and eventually loop. Actual When clip restarts from 0, audio is put to pause by the system. Further details This does not happen e.g. on Mac Safari nor on another device/browser. Also, some alternative scenarios: when HTML video element has the muted attribute, the issue disappears and audio is not paused when HTML audio element is replace with Web Audio API, the issue disappears and audio is not paused

Why does ReactPlayer fail to play videos at 3x speed only on iOS Safari?
I'm encountering an issue with ReactPlayer where videos fail to play when the playback rate is set to 3x, but this problem only occurs on iOS. The same functionality works perfectly fine on Android devices and desktop browsers like Chrome and Firefox. Here are the details of my setup: ReactPlayer version: 2.16.0 Video format: [MP4, hls ] Tested devices: iPhone 13 Expected behavior: Videos should play smoothly at 3x speed. Actual behavior: Videos fail to load or play when playbackRate is set to 3.0. I've read that iOS Safari might have limitations regarding playback rate due to performance or energy efficiency, but I couldn't find any official documentation to confirm this. If anyone has faced a similar issue or knows the root cause (or a workaround), I'd really appreciate your insights. Additionally, if there are official resources or documentation about playback rate limitations on iOS Safari, please share them. Thanks in advance for your help!

Smart App Banner has changed background color
We have a Smart App Banner (including App Clip) on our website and have noticed today that the banner's background color has changed. It no longer has the default white background and blue button color, instead it has a background color that matches our page's background, and even the color of the button has changed. What's interesting is that we have not triggered this change at all. The colors seemingly changed by themselves. Looking at the Apple Documentation, no customization options are mentioned. Searching the web, the theme-color meta tag is mentioned in relation to this, however we haven't even included that tag on our page. What is triggering this color change then and how can we influence it?

Frontend Does Not Display Password Validation Error (e.g., “Password Cannot Contain Your Name”)
Description When creating an Apple ID via the web form, if the user’s chosen password contains their own name, the server correctly returns an error (e.g., "Password cannot contain your name") in the PUT request's JSON response. However, this error is not shown on the frontend, leaving users unaware of why the form silently fails or stalls. Steps to Reproduce Go to the Apple ID account creation page (https://appleid.apple.com/account). Enter valid account details where the password includes the user's first or last name (e.g., Johnacb2331!l for a user named John Doe). Complete all fields, including phone number verification and captcha. Submit the form and monitor the Network tab in your browser’s DevTools. Observe that the form appears to hang, loop, or silently fail. Open the PUT request to /account — the response JSON will contain the relevant validation error (e.g., “Password cannot contain your name”), but the user is not shown this. Expected Behavior The password validation error (e.g., containing the user’s name) should be immediately displayed in the UI next to the password field to inform the user and allow for correction. Actual Behavior No error is shown in the UI. The form appears to fail silently, leaving the user confused. The actual reason for failure is only visible through browser developer tools in the PUT response payload. Impact This can lead to: User frustration and confusion Increased support overhead Poor UX in a critical flow (account creation) Environment Browser: chrome 136.0.7103.114 Platform: Web (https://appleid.apple.com) Date observed: 31/5/25 Suggested Fix Ensure that password validation messages from backend responses surface in the frontend, especially for common user input issues like including names in passwords. No screenshots as I can not create a new account

Request for Assistance: Safari Web Push Notification Token Expiration Issues
Dear Apple Developer Support Team, I am writing regarding critical issues we are facing with Safari web push notifications in our application iLiveMyLife.io, which is severely impacting our ability to maintain reliable communication with our users. Issue Description: We are experiencing persistent problems with Safari push notification tokens expiring or becoming invalid without any notification to our server. This creates several critical issues: Users stop receiving notifications without any indication of failure Our notification delivery system has no way to detect token expiration The expiration appears to happen frequently (seemingly almost daily in some cases) There is no reliable mechanism to re-establish push communication without users manually revisiting the app Technical Impact: Our messaging functionality becomes completely unreliable We must resort to email or SMS as fallback mechanisms, which is not feasible for a real-time communication platform This makes building any reliable messaging application on Safari practically impossible The Broader Context: What makes this situation particularly challenging is that all potential alternative browser APIs that could help address this issue appear to be deliberately disabled or restricted in Safari: Background Service Workers don't function in the background on iOS Safari Background Sync API is not supported WebSockets cannot operate when the app is closed There's no way to programmatically check the validity of push tokens The combination of these limitations creates a situation where developers have no viable technical path to build reliable notification systems for PWAs on Safari. This appears to be a systematic restriction rather than individual API limitations. Requested Information: Is there a recommended approach to detect Safari push token expiration? Are there alternative notification mechanisms for PWA applications on Safari that offer more reliability? Is there documentation on the lifecycle of Safari push tokens that could help us implement proper handling? Are there plans to improve the Web Push API implementation in Safari to address these reliability issues? Could you clarify if these limitations are intentional design decisions or technical constraints that might be addressed in future updates? Business Impact: This issue fundamentally undermines our platform's core functionality. For a collaborative tool, reliable notifications are essential - users cannot collaborate effectively if they miss updates because their push tokens silently expired. The current state creates confusion among our users, who don't understand why they suddenly stop receiving notifications. Any guidance or assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated. We're committed to providing an excellent experience on Safari, but the current push notification limitations make this extremely challenging. Thank you for your time and consideration. Best regards, Ilya

Apple Pay on the Web fails with an "AbortError" in production
Apple Pay fails with an "AbortError" when the dialog for the fingerprint sensor opens. How do I find the cause of the "AbortError" which only occurs in the web integration in our production environment? In the sandbox environment, Apple Pay works flawlessly. This concerns a web integration of Apple Pay using the Apple Pay SDK, one version before 1.2.0. The error occurs when I call the show() method on the PaymentRequest object. The Apple Pay dialog opens with the fingerprint icon, but after one second, an exclamation mark appears, and the Apple Pay dialog closes again while throwing the "AbortError". I know that our Apple Pay integration worked for multiple customers in the production environment already. The current problem is that Apple's error message, called "AbortError," provides no indication of the cause. This could be greatly improved. One affected customer, for example, is the one with the Merchant ID … (Is it safe to post a Merchant ID in this forum?) I can reproduce the "AbortError" issue at any time using my iPhone with iOS 16.7.8.

Unwarranted Autofill prompt for non authenticator grid boxes
On Mac, If the user registers the Password and the Software Authenticator app for a website like PayPal then uses the Safari browser to login the Apple system is creating confusion. The system prompts to use the authenticator autofill for any grid like SMS OTP or even for the Email OTP. That creates confusion for the user as the SMS OTPs or other OTPs cannot be validated by auto filling the Authenticator TOTP. That fails the validation resulting in bad user experience. The system should not prompt the Autofill from the Authenticator app unless the grid box shown on the page was for the Authenticator app.

WebKit https post return html use javascript send WebSocket Request
In my application, I use HTML pages to display the interface. Since it’s a cross-platform app, the pages and interactions work properly on other platforms. However, in WebKit, because HTTPS protocol is used, JS requests from the page cannot use the ws protocol but must use the wss protocol under HTTPS. Is there any way to allow a webpage under HTTPS to use ws requests normally? Google Chrome can do this.

Apple Messages strips URL from HTML clipboard
Hi there, I use the Clipboard API to create formatted project links with a "copy link" button. This has been really versatile for end users. When they paste into their email, they get a hyperlinked project name that leads to the project, and when they paste into the URL bar, they just get the project URL. It used to be that pasting into Messages on Mac would yield the same behavior as pasting into the URL bar. But recently, Messages started only pasting the inner text of the HTML clipboard, so no URL, just the project name, which isn’t very useful for a copy link function. Is there any way to ensure that Messages pastes the URL while maintaining my formatting options on other surfaces?

Behavior of Safari in HTTP/2 communication
I want to confirm the specifications and behavior of Safari. We have a system built on Microsoft Azure that uses Azure AD B2C for authentication. When we logging in, there is a phone authentication feature where a call is made to the registered phone number. However, this phone authentication does not work properly only on iPhone's Safari. The specific situation is listed below: When performing phone authentication on iPhone's Safari, a call is made from Azure AD B2C, and pressing the # button on the Safari screen can be done. But then, it transitions to an error screen. We tried multiple iPhone devices and multiple iOS versions, but the result was the same. But when accessing the system on a PC, and performing phone authentication, it works without any errors. Also when we use browsers other than Safari (for example, Google Chrome and Firefox) on the iPhone, the phone authentication works without any errors, too. Even with Safari, if the device displaying the login screen and the device making the call are different, phone authentication works without any errors, too.(it fails if they are the same device). We reached out Microsoft about this issue, and they responded that: The Azure resource called FrontDoor at the front end of Azure AD B2C supports the HTTP/2 protocol, and HTTP/2 protocol is used in communication with Safari. In Safari's HTTP/2 communication, when a call is received while the screen is displayed, a reset packet is sent to the web server (in this case, the web server is FrontDoor). This interrupts the session, causing a session termination error on the Azure AD B2C side, and phone authentication fails. Therefore, we would like to ask you the following two points: In HTTP/2 communication, does the Safari browser send a reset packet to the web server when it receives a phone call? If so, what is the cause of this behavior? And are there any measures to prevent the reset packet from being sent?

HTML problem at Safari on iPadOS 18.2 or after version
We confirmed a problem at Safari on iPadOS 18.2 or after version. For confirmation, we made a HTML document (see below HTML1) what include ‘method="POST" target="_blank"’ and tested the form however server received GET method and there is no parameter, server did not receive “id” parameter. We confirmed that fact in captured packet and log file that on the server. HTML1: We also made another HTML document (see below HTML2) what include submit button, but the server received GET method as above. HTML2: And we also confirmed that it behaves differently depending on the network environment. If the form targets a name that does not exist (ex. target=” A12345”), behaves differently http or https. http: Safari opened new tag, but the server received GET method. Normally, Safari open new tag and the server receive POST method. https: Safari opened new tag, and the server received POST method. It is normally. If the form targets ‘_blank’, the server received GET method on http or https both. We think Safari change the method POST to GET and delete parameters. It is not conformed to the HTML specification if is that true. We confirmed it was not happened at Safari on iPadOS 17.4, and Windows PC (Edge, Chrome). The method what the server received is POST. We find same problem in Apple Support Community (see below URL). https://discussionsjapan.apple.com/thread/255987615 (Described in Japanese) Is it a bug in Safari on iPadOS 18.2 or after version? Do you have plan to fix? Or if fixed the bug, when do you release fixed version.

SFSafariApplication doesn't transmitt messages to docked website.
Hi! I'm working on a web extension for Safari and I need to send messages from the containing application to JavaScript. For this I use the method class func dispatchMessage( withName messageName: String, toExtensionWithIdentifier identifier: String, userInfo: [String : Any]? = nil ) async throws of the SFSafariApplication class. If the site is opened in Safari in normal mode, everything works as expected. However, if the site is "docked", the messages are not transmitted to this "Web App".

fetch() in safari extension does not include credentials (cookie) when using from non-default profile
It seems fetch() does not include credentials (cookie) even when credentials: include is used and Safari extension has host_permissions for that domain when using from a non-default Safari profile. It includes credentials (cookie) when using from the default profile (which has the default name Personal). Is there anyone who has this problem? I try to request in popup.js like this: const response = await fetch( url, { method: 'GET', mode: 'cors', credentials: 'include', referrerPolicy: 'no-referrer', } ); and it does not include the credentials (cookie) from host_permissions. I already posted https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/764279, and opened feedback assistant (FB15307169). But it is still not fixed yet. (macOS 15.4 beta 3) I hope this is fixed soon.

HELP!Apple Pay Web application cannot pay due to the bottom rotation issue
I built a web application using the Apple Pay on the Web Interactive Demo with the Payment Request API, but encountered a few issues: The initiated web Apple Pay interface shows a spinning circle at the bottom and cannot proceed with payment(Bottom display:正在处理). What could be causing this? How to set up sandbox testing for payments? How to asynchronously and synchronously retrieve payment results (backend code to fetch payment results)? The demo only shows frontend code using await response.complete("success"); for retrieving payment results my demo URL: https://shop.wowseer.com/rsolomakhin/pr/applepay/

XMLHttpRequest cannot load https://demo2.artios.cz/app37g/v105/php/endpoint.php due to access control checks
Hi, we are experiencing a strange issue with our Web App. Our web app runs entirely on the same domain , and we are making several AJAX requests to the same server. The Error occurs only on Iphones, the app works completely fine on androids and computers. Most of the requests work fine, but suddenly, one specific request always fails with the following error: XMLHttpRequest cannot load https://demo2.artios.cz/app37g/v105/php/endpoint.php due to access control checks What we have checked so far: ✅ CORS headers seem correct. Also we operate entirely on the same domain, client and server. ✅ The same request works fine in computer and android devices. ✅ The issue occurs only on iPhone (tested on Chrome and Safari). ✅ Some requests to the same endpoint pass, but suddenly, this specific request always fails. ✅ There is no OPTIONS preflight request logged in the network tab, but we use only simple requests. ✅ We are making a POST request with multipart/form-data. What is Your advice, or where I can find more info about this error? We do not think the CORS is the problem. We have tried to inspect with WebInspector but with no relevant answers. Thank You very much!
