In the most recent tvOS 27 betas, the icons for Apple’s apps on tvOS gained Liquid Glass refraction effects that change as you move your finger over the remote’s touch surface. This can be most clearly seen in the icons for Photos and Podcasts. How can our third-party apps make use of these effects on tvOS, which isn’t supported by Icon Composer? Is the intention for third party apps to continue using flat design while Apple’s own apps use Liquid Glass?

Ever since tvOS 26.4, we've had some difficulties in discovering, pairing, and supervising Apple TV 4K devices using Apple Configurator 2.20. We submitted a feedback report about this issue (FB22525540). The issue has improved somewhat for me when using the latest tvOS 26.6, if the Apple TV is connected via Ethernet during the initial paring step. Sometimes the pairing still fails, but eventually I can get it to work. However, some others on our dev / QA teams haven't had the same luck in even seeing the device as available to pair (even when the Apple TV is at the welcome screen or Remote and Devices screen, nearby, and on Ethernet along with the Mac). I've seen other cases where the pairing seems to work, but then the device doesn't appear in the Apple Configurator devices list, and therefore it’s not possible to supervise and install profiles onto it. Are they any workarounds or other steps we can try?

I have purchased an universal, non-official Apple TV remote, with a little more buttons than on the official one (i.e. the CH-/CH+) buttons. I wanted to use the GCMicroGamepad property from the underlying GCController (from GameController framework), in order to use these buttons, but although I've linked this remote to my Apple TV device (in Settings > Remotes and Devices > Learn Remote), my app doesn't recognize it (it's not being listed in GCController.controllers()). So my question is, is there something specific I can do so I can use this remote as a GCController? Or maybe is there something specific to hardware that I have to know for this to work? Thank you.

I will turn on my Apple TV 4K, select my profile, and then I will receive an error for AirPlay that says unable to connect. I am not trying to utilize AirPlay at this time. Sometimes, when I select "OK," it goes away and stays away. However, sometimes I will select "OK" and it will pop up again immediately. When I unplug it and plug it back in it works. It is on the latest Developer Beta. Is anyone else experiencing this bug? I have reported it via the Feedback app.

Is there any UIRequiredDeviceCapabilities string that can be used to restrict an app to Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) or later hardware? I can’t find one. I’m working on a tvOS app that uses Continuity Camera. That feature only works on Apple TV 4K (2nd gen) and Apple TV 4K (3rd gen) hardware. There seems be no way to warn App Store customers that the app will not work on Apple TV 4K (1st gen). In the App Store or TestFlight, a user with a 1st gen device incorrectly sees a compatibility note that the app “Works on this Apple TV”. Setting a minimum OS version is not currently a helpful path for me — even tvOS 26.5 is compatible with 1st generation hardware. I can’t think of a good way to prevent users with an incompatible Apple TV 4K from installing an app that won’t work on their 1st generation devices. Any ideas? Am I missing something?

But we found that the API response is null currently. When going through iTunes Search API: Constructing Searches, we found that 'tvSoftware' is no longer an entity.   Could you please let me know what's the 'entity' value that we need to use for fetching Apple TV applications?

Since updating to tvoS 26.1/2 YouTube audio breaks when playing videos at anything other than 1x speed. At 1.25x or higher, the audio is "static-y" and distorted almost immediately. Strangely, AirPods work fine, it only happens with other audio outputs. I have two specific requirements and would like clarification on their feasibility: Custom Skip Button Timing: I would like to display a custom skip button with my own skip-timer logic, instead of relying on the skippable time defined in the ad tag. Is it possible to hide the default IMA skip button and replace it with a custom one? Force-Skipping Ads: Once my custom skip button becomes available and the user chooses to skip, I need to skip the ad regardless of whether the ad itself is defined as skippable. Is there any way to force-skip an ad on tvOS using the IMA SDK? If there are any alternative approaches or recommended solutions that could help achieve these requirements, I would greatly appreciate your guidance. Thank you.

Hello, We have Video Stream app. It has HLS VOD Content. We supply 1080p, 4K Contents to users. Users were watching 1080p content before tvOS 26. Users can not watch 1080p content anymore when they update to tvOS 26. We have not changed anything at HLS playlist side and application version. This problem only occurs on Apple TV 4th Gen (A1625) tvOS 26 version. There is no problem with newer Apple TV devices. Would you help to resolve problem? Thanks in advance

On testing my app with tvOS 18, I have noticed the Siri Remote back button no longer provides system-provided behavior when interacting with tab bar controller pages. Instead of moving focus back to the tab bar when pressed, the back button will close the app, as if the Home button was pressed. This occurs both on device and in the Simulator. Create tvOS project with a tab bar controller. Create pages/tabs which contain focusable items (ie. buttons) Scroll down to any focusable item (ie. a button or UICollectionView cell) Hit the Siri Remote back button. See expect behavior below: Expected behavior: System-provided behavior should move focus back to the tab bar at the top of the screen. Actual results: App is closed and user is taken back to the Home Screen. Has anyone else noticed this behavior?

I have an Apple TV 4k 3rd gen 128gb model connected to a downstream device that is compatible with all surround sound formats except object-based ones like DTS:X, Dolby Atmos and Dolby Atmos MAT2.0 . However, I would still like to have the highest possible audio output from the Apple TV 4k and not have to downgrade to the lossy Dolby 5.1 or stereo options when playing back content with Atmos audio (only that is affected since all other non-object-based audio is output without any problems since the problem arises from the MAT2.0 encoding for Atmos content which my downstream device is not able to decode). Please let me know if I missed a setting that can resolve my problem and otherwise please either consider adding the option or including me in the closed beta for the Apple TV OS26 since I heared that an option for audio-passtrough is in the works. Hey, I have AirPlay speakers that I want to use as permanent speakers on my Apple TV. It is possible since tvOS 26. I want to delete the delay from the connection to the speakers and tried out the wireless audio calibration, but then the TV speakers go on and it only works there, not on the speakers. Does anyone have a solution?

tvOS 26 rolls out the feature to set every AirPlay speaker as permanent in the settings. Is there a possibility to setup eARC like with the HomePods for other devices connected to a TV or will this stay a HomePod only feature?

Hello there I have got into a bit of an issue with the Apple TV 4k 3rd Gen with Ethernet . So I installed the iOS 26 beta to try out the new changes I usually do this on Apple TVs but in this case it has a bug where my apple music randomly skipped to the next songs . So after some bit of reading I got to know that the apple TV as a recovery mode which could be accessed by pressing home and pause/play buttons . After getting there I was required to bring an iPhone close to start the recovery process which I did but somehow that process always failed I tried to plug in the Ethernet cable since my apple TV is literally 3-5 inches away from my main router I even tried the recommended option of switching to a 2.4ghz connection but nothing worked . I would think that by apple getting rid of the USB ports on these things they had a reliable method of recovery in case of error because these are computers they are bound to fail at some point . So for now am stuck with a boot looping apple TV without a port and I don't even know how that too came about since the recovery process barely starts and fails. Ps am in Africa where we have no apple stores so we usually deal with our products ourselves
