Hello everyone, I have the problem at the moment that when I create a new project in a new empty repository, the files are always opened the old project.
I have already deleted all caches and also deleted Xcode 16.2 and reinstalled.
Does anyone of you know the problem?
Best regards
Joerg

We are trying to create a screentime app using the Family Controls as well as Device activity frameworks. The build succeeds but while pushing to an iphone we are getting an info.plist file for deviceactivity.framework could not be found error. For reference when using the Screentime API a physical device must be used not a simulator. When we remove the device activity framework this error also occurs for the family controls framework. We have added the Family Controls(development) Capability and applied for the distribution capability. We have redownloaded xcode multiple times on the main device, deleted derived data, and redownloaded all of the iphone SDKs and the issue still persists.
I want to release a Framework F, containing several other frameworks (such as Realm, Appetitive, Cocoalumberjack, PhoneNumberKit) for use by app A.
According to this article: https://medium.com/@bittudavis/how-to-create-an-umbrella-framework-in-swift-ca964d0a2345
They write, without referencing a source: "Although Apple discourage creating umbrella framework".
Is that true, do Apple discourage umbrella frameworks, if so why and is it a very strong discourage or a mild one?
If not discouraged, then how can this be achieved with Xcode 16?
I've been attempting to follow a few tutorial to achieve this, such as https://medium.com/john-lewis-software-engineering/adding-a-third-party-framework-inside-a-first-party-framework-in-xcode-3ba58cfd08da
however so far without any success. This last article mentions the Link Binary With Libraries section, which doesn't exist in Xcode 16.
There's the Frameworks, Libraries, and Embedded Content section where I have been attempting to add the frameworks into my Framework F (choosing Embed without Signing).
I'm able to successfully build Framework F, but when app A attempts to use it (adding F to the Frameworks, Libraries, and Embedded Content section with option embed and sign, or embed and don't sign, makes no difference) then I get run time errors about the umbrellaed frameworks not being able to be found.
When I use Xcode to develop the apps, the connection to my own Apple Watch is failed. The simulator has been downloaded, but it still displayed"watchOS10.0 Not Installed". The developer options were opened, I click the"trust this computer" but it always display"Connecting to *** Apple Watch". My iPhone can be connected normally.
Hi, I'm currently facing an issue where my React Native app crashes only on a real iPhone. On the simulator and in Xcode preview, the app runs fine.
Previously, I had an issue with FlatList regarding props.getItem, which I solved by installing some missing Babel dependencies. After that, everything worked correctly in the simulator.
But when I try to open the app on a real device, it shows the splash screen and crashes immediately. I've already done a full clean and reset, including:
npx react-native start --reset-cache
Deleted node_modules and Pods, reinstalled everything
Cleaned build folder via Xcode
Deleted DerivedData
Restarted Metro bundler and simulator/device
The issue only happens on the physical device.

After updating to 16.3, my project now fails to compile with the diagnostic: "Command SwiftCompile failed with a nonzero exit code".
This is a SwiftUI document project with two local packages, the second of which is a rather large one with 112 SwiftUI files. It is this second package that is failing. There are no issues when compiling with 16.2. Without diagnostics I'm having a bit of difficulty in determining the cause. My thought is to regress the commits unit 16.3 gives a success, or shows issues.
Although I'm not catching a similar issue in the forums, I'm seeing other problems with 16.3. Has anyone else had such build failure isolated to 16.3? Any advice on other ways to approach this problem?
Thanks in advance

Xcode
Hello all:)
I am using Xcode 16.2, react native 0.76, simulator -> iPhone 15(17.0), mac M1 Sequoia 15.2.
Many "could not build module" errors appear while building files inside iPhoneSimulator18.2.sdk.
The think is that I don't even use this simulator and if I try to delete it the Xcode hides all other simulator options and requires 18.2 to download..
Of course I already tried to clean and delete and reinstall everything but nothing works..
Any help is welcome:)
Thanks!
When I thought Xcode could not get any worse, here's the most absurd thing I have ever seen developing software in almost 20 years of work.
When building a project, which I haven't touched lately, and last time it was building just fine, it raised errors on a class that doesn't even belong in any way to such project, it only exists in another one. To clarify, we're talking of a project written in C++ which runs only on mac, which is failing due to linker errors, where the linker can not find symbols of a class living in a different project and that is not referenced in any way inside this project. I mean, really? how does Apple manage to make Xcode more and more unstable by the minute? Starting from Xcode 15.1 I was already experiencing much longer building times, due to the fact that it doesn't manage the cache properly and is rebuilding lots of stuff every time..

I just started working with Flutter. I use a Macbook m2 and my phone is an iPhone XR. I made a very simple application but no matter what I did, I couldn't start my application on my iPhone XR. I got help from all the AIs but we couldn't do it. I deleted everything including Xcode, Android Studio and Flutter and reinstalled them and I followed the SDK installation step by step on the Flutter page but I can't run my project on Xcode. I entered my Apple account including all the signings and certificates via the .workspace file extension but it didn't work. The error I get from Xcode keeps changing. We installed podfiles with the support I got from the AIs and after some fiddling, I got the only error right now: Command PhaseScriptExecution failed with a nonzero exit code
Hi, I currently have an app that connect to an arduno via CoreBluetooth. However, the app no longer discovers the arduino when the operating system was upgraded to iOS 18.3.1, however on iOS version 17.6.1 the ardiuno was discoverable I was able to test this theory on two different phones each with different iOS versions. Why are my peripherals no longer being discovered with this update? and what is the solution?
When I try to build my project in Xcode (from Unity AR) project, it throws me these errors:
I feel like I've tried everything to make the LaunchScreen work. I downloaded xcode the night I tried running this build, so the whole deleting and redownloading and restarting everything didn't work. I've tried making sure my macbook and terminal are fully up to date. I literally can't find a solution! Please help!!
I will also say, I'm fairly new to App building, Xcode, and Unity. But this does seem like a barrier that is stopping me from testing my project.

When I execute:
geoCoder.reverseGeocodeLocation(location, completionHandler:{[weak self](placemarks, error) in
print("reverse geocoding location after altitude: ",location.altitude)
print("placemark location first", placemarks?.first?.location?.altitude ?? -1)
The input CLLocation has correct altitude 25, instead the location in the output placemarks have altitude 0, when of course they should have the same location. Moreover it is impossible to retrofit any data in the returned placemarks as they are portrayed as a read only property.
When renaming A.value, it also causes the value inside the conditional compilation in checkRename to be renamed.
How to resolve or avoid this situation?
class A {
let value = "1"
}
class B {
var value = 0
}
func checkRename() {
var b = B()
#if os(iOS)
b.value = 456
#elseif os(macOS)
b.value = 789
#endif
}
Xcode Version 15.4 (15F31d).

A while ago, perhaps early in v16, Xcode stopped tracking file liveness. I'd hoped the regression would be fixed, but... not yet.
Is there some setting I'm missing? Is this from underlying filesystem limits? or from working with swift packages?
Conversely, if/since this is a regression, is this the new normal, and not to be fixed (e.g., because the modern build system cannot be retrofitted to detect and update stale resources)?
Assuming I create a Swift package and open it in Xcode...
1. New files
I expect to get errors when I create a new swift file, add bad code, and build.
Instead, the file doesn't seem to be added to the build.
If I try to use Add Files to "{project}".. menu, the file is disabled for selection.
A workaround is to close and re-open the project
2. Files updated extrinsically
If outside Xcode I format the files in the package or edit them, I expect Xcode to notice and either 1) update with the new contents if there were no changes, or 2) ask what to do if there were changes.
Instead, Xcode proceeds oblivious to the underlying changes.
It is not a workaround to use Integrate/Refresh file status menu for SCM status.
Again, a workaround is to close and re-open the project.
Possible factors
Swift package projects, if resource tracking is tied to metadata unused in package projects?
External filesystem: these are on APFS volumes mounted via TB-4 and USB-3
Pilot error?
Impact
This leads me to re-open projects 10's of times a day, to create test files or maintain lint. Also, because I have to drop out of Xcode to process files before checking in, I end up using an external git workflow/UI.
Also, because Xcode is not particularly extensible, I've written external tools for analyzing and generating Swift, hosted via CLI or eclipse (which support resource markers for UI navigation). I use Swift LSP in Eclipse for analysis and git-driven changes, and end up coding there because well, I'm already there.
I'd take slower builds over this continuous hassle and context-switching in a heartbeat.

I have Xcode on my mac. I am iOS Dev. I do not know what version of Xcode was before I did next steps, but I could say that I had iOS Simulator 18.3.1.
So I update my Xcode to Version 16.3 (16E140). At this version is available iOS Simulator 18.4. But from some time before Xcode separate downloading components and actual Xcode itself. So i make update and do not download latest iOS simulator.
What i have:
in Xcode -> Settings -> Components under " Other Installed Platforms" i have iOS 18.3.1 and 17.5
in Choose Destination dropdown menu i have nothing. And Xcode say me that i need install iOS Simulator.
After some time with ChatGPT I could not do nothing from this. I try go to : Window -> Device and Simulators and here create new simulator with 18.3.1 and make it appear Always. But it didn't help.
Solution I did: I download latest version 18.4 because i could not wait because i need fix bug only 1 hour shift and it was this hour so i fast download the simulator.
After downloading 18.4 in Choose Destination dropdown it appears all versions of simulaors and 18.3.1 and that i created and 17.5
Question:
Does Xcode force to install latest version of iOS simulator?
What is the sense of this upgrade that now Xcode is updating faster because it download 8 GB not 16 if eventually I need download 8 GB again ? The new what i could do download Xcode in the evening and Simulator in the morning?
I am working on an XCode project and I have some Swift functions within a helper functions file. This file has some functions declared that create 3 global variables. These global variables are then used in various views throughout the app. In the functions, there are print statements for when it catches an error. However, when I run the app and I get an error that stems from this file, there are no print statements. How can I have this print statements show up in the debug console?
Hi,
I am getting an error stating "Argument passed to call that takes no arguments". I want this Apple Watch App to measure and store RR Intervals from the PPG sensor on the Apple Watch for Heart Rate Variability calculations. Please help me fix this, I can't figure it out. Here is my code:
heartbeatQuery = HKHeartbeatSeriesQuery(predicate: predicate,
dataReceivedHandler: { (query, timeSinceLastBeat, ended, error) in
// Switch to main thread for UI updates
DispatchQueue.main.async {
if let error = error {
print("Heartbeat query error: (error.localizedDescription)")
self.fetchErrorMessage = "Heartbeat query error: (error.localizedDescription)"
// Consider stopping the workout session if the query fails critically
// self.stopWorkoutSession()
return
}
if ended {
print("Heartbeat query indicates series ended.")
}
// Append valid RR intervals
if timeSinceLastBeat > 0 {
self.rrIntervals.append(timeSinceLastBeat)
self.beatCount += 1
}
} // End DispatchQueue.main.async
}) // End query data handler
// --- END OF PROBLEMATIC INITIALIZER ---
// Execute the query if it was created successfully
It recommends the fix as removing this part:
'(predicate: predicate,
dataReceivedHandler: { (query, timeSinceLastBeat, ended, error) in
// Switch to main thread for UI updates
DispatchQueue.main.async {
if let error = error {
print("Heartbeat query error: (error.localizedDescription)")
self.fetchErrorMessage = "Heartbeat query error: (error.localizedDescription)"
// Consider stopping the workout session if the query fails critically
// self.stopWorkoutSession()
return
}
if ended {
print("Heartbeat query indicates series ended.")
}
// Append valid RR intervals
if timeSinceLastBeat > 0 {
self.rrIntervals.append(timeSinceLastBeat)
self.beatCount += 1
}
} // End DispatchQueue.main.async
})'
But after I remove that it says "Cannot assign value of type 'HKHeartbeatSeriesQuery.Type' to type 'HKHeartbeatSeriesQuery'" PLEASE HELP ME
Thanks
When trying to use the watchOS preview the simulator fails to load and throws about 15 errors. Clearly the simulator is trying to load all of the iOS packages to the watchOS simulator. However, these packages clearly aren't included in the watchOS app. Furthermore, both apps build successfully to the main simulators, just not the previews. Having a list of errors that simply should not be there is a pretty big annoyance when something is going wrong. How do I fix this?
I have an iOS app, and I am trying to add a companion WatchOS app. My iOS app depends on 2 libraries:
GoogleMobileAds
FirebaseAnalyticsWithoutAdIdSupport
When I add a new target for WatchOS, the preview build starts to fail. I am not adding any libraries to WatchOS. The Google Ads and Firebase Analytics libs are only under the iOS target.
I am unable to run the preview, I get an error when trying to build the watch scheme. The preview does not work. The build just crashes. I've included the error log below.
But, here are the steps I've tried so far:
Delete folders inside Derived Data
Run a clean build (Cmd + Option + Shift + K)
Delete scheme and create a new one
Reset Package Cache
Restart Xcode
Restart Macbook
But, it just does not work. I do not understand why the watchOS target is erroring for "GoogleUserMessagingPlatform" and "GoogleMobileAdsTarget" when those packages are not linked/used for the watchOS.
